had the work done at kwik fit, should they check it for free or should I have to pay?
may as well have used 4 weetabix rather than kwik !!!!
  • In 1995, I went to kwikfit for 4 tyres. They quite happily supplied and fitted the tyres (about £210) then told me that when they were putting the car onto the ramps, they noticed it needed front spring inserts. These wern't expensive and if I wanted, I could open a kwikfit card and put it on that.
I declined, but they succesfully conned my father (which was a surprise) and a friend of my wife's.
It aint libel if it's true.

    Hi every1

just has the front brake pads changed on my car about 1 month ago and every since then when I brake there seems to be a grinding noise, the steering also feels a bit heavier. Is this normal while the new pads bed in or should I return to the garage to have it checked out?
    thanks

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:You didn't go with the "free brake pads for life " offer did you?

Cheap pads and they still charge for fitting and attempt to blag the clothes off your back whilst theyv'e got you in there;), allegedly

have a look at the pads. with some types it is possible to fit them the wrong way around (metal against the disk and friction material against the caliper) this will make a grinding noise and ruin your disks. dont ask me how i know

They managed to fit an asymmetrical tyre the wrong way out on the crabmobile... it even said "INSIDE" on the wall of the tyre facing outwards and the dipsticks didn't notice.

I think most of us here are amazed at what they do :rotfl:

vauxhall main dealer once fitted me two different sized tyres on the same axle. when i noticed a week later and took it back they said "we wondered where that went"
  • The brake pad warning light on my A3 Sportback has come on......

Where's the best place to get it checked? Audi service centres charge £99 for just two (either front or back) brake pads!!

Any garage that isn't an Audi dealer or is part of a national chain such as Kwik-Fit, Nationwide auto etc. Of course you probably won't get free coffee or a smarmy sales guy with clean fingernails but then you'll be less likely to get ripped off too.

If it's not the brake fluid that needs topping up (check it yourself) then doubtless it's the brake pads. Getting all 4 changed if the others are low will save you a load of cash and time too.
