if said transit wasnt there you could reverse all the way back to get out!! just as the road is designed for this..

That would just save the need for you to turn your steering wheel a turn, not really worth worrying about.

Be honest, you just don't like the idea of someone parking in what you consider to be your road, sadly it isn't your road.
  • no i dont think its my road at all!! in fact im not here all day .

but when you have 2 disabled people who have to try and park then it needs to be sorted.

im sure you would appreciate someone who say lives 3 streets over from you parking around your road.

no , i didnt think so

I wouldn't have a problem with anyone parking legally on the public highway as long as they were not causing obstruction.

The Transit Van is not causing any problem to any driver, disabled or otherwise.

Like you, I don't actually own any road.

I don't know if it's just me, but I have a paranoia of "white van neighbourhoods" now while I'm looking for somewhere to move house. As soon as I see a nice road or cul-de-sac with a bloody great white van blocking the road, I just think "next!". I just wish people would leave their work vans at work and just bring their cars home with them.

i think it might just be you.
how can they just leave the van at thier work and drive thier car home?
i have a van for my work and i have a car, but i wont be driving my car 20 miles to pick up my van and then maybe drive back past my house to attend my first job, then similarly at night i could be driving right past my house to go back and collect my car, drop the van off and then head home. just think how much time, money and fuel that would be wasting over a year, just so you dont have to look at a transit van on your street.
my neighbours were a bit funny years ago when i first got a van i had to park it outside one of thier houses, she has a big hedge that cover the van from her view, an even bigger driveway and doesnt own a car so its not as if i was stealing her space, she just didnt like the idea of a van outside her house. heaven only knows why.

why do vans offend folk so much? they take up roughly the same space as a large car. it it the hieght that offends you, do you get annoyed at folk with people carriers aswell?

One, persist with the "letter" approach you have already mentioned. Leave stuff on the windscreen. Ideally, ultra sticky labels which are really hard to remove and only scrape off a couple of fibres at a time. An A4 or A3 sized label placed right in the driver's view printed with words along the lines of "You inconvenience us, we'll inconvenience you. Have fun removing this label!"

Two, conspire with your neighbours to park sideways in those spaces when empty, leaving no room for white van man. They will happily move on request for genuine residents.

Three, let their tyres down to p!ss them off regularly, but be sure not to cause damage to avoid a criminal offence.

if the guy was parking on your driveway that might be considered an inconvenience and i would agree with using these tactics or worse even, but the guy is parking a legal vehicle on a public road, not your road. so if you had to try sticking stuff to my windows or letting my tyres down be prepared to find your car heavily damaged by the tipping body of that transit.

inactive is right, you are upset at someone else parking a big ugly van there, if it was a car parked in the same position it wouldnt make it any easier or any harder to get in or out, you could park anothe transit next to that one and there would still be enough space to get out of your spaces.

where do the disabled neighbours go in thier cars? do they park in an empty field and then walk to tesco? no they park in the car park, even disabled parking at a supermarket doesnt offer as much space as you have at your street, even with the van parked there.

get over it and leave the guys van alone.

Would think very carefully before playing the disabled card.
Council is very likely to take the 6 spaces - make 2 50% wider for disabled drivers only and then you are down to 5 spaces of which you will only be able to use 3.

Have seen it done before and guess who ends up with their transit in one of the three spots.

Only way these guys move their vehicles somewhere else is if they feel the place isnt safe to leave unattended vehicles all day long.

Cant really extrapolate on that but my guess is the reason they got funny about the letter on their vehicle was because thats how it started last time. Am guessing it ended with tacks under tyres.
