anyone know anything about residential parking laws?

I'd reverse park into there like the car on the end has done, you can pretty much drive straight out then.
Some people are laughable. He's parked it and somehow the owners should have a discussion about that. Idiot.0 -
Looking at the pictures, the vans are highly annoying but parked perfectly legally I'm afriad. I do sympathise with you. The car park where I live is nice and quiet now, but a couple of years ago one of the neighbours (thankfully gone now) was one of those white van !!!!!! who together with his missus had two cars as well and would constantly swap vehicles as "placeholders" in the spaces we had all used previously through custom and practice. It's almost like we were "forced out" of our old spaces when they came to live here.
I don't know if it's just me, but I have a paranoia of "white van neighbourhoods" now while I'm looking for somewhere to move house. As soon as I see a nice road or cul-de-sac with a bloody great white van blocking the road, I just think "next!". I just wish people would leave their work vans at work and just bring their cars home with them.
Anyway, rant over.. there are a few options you could use to discourage parking of vans there:
One, persist with the "letter" approach you have already mentioned. Leave stuff on the windscreen. Ideally, ultra sticky labels which are really hard to remove and only scrape off a couple of fibres at a time. An A4 or A3 sized label placed right in the driver's view printed with words along the lines of "You inconvenience us, we'll inconvenience you. Have fun removing this label!"
Two, conspire with your neighbours to park sideways in those spaces when empty, leaving no room for white van man. They will happily move on request for genuine residents.
Three, let their tyres down to p!ss them off regularly, but be sure not to cause damage to avoid a criminal offence.0 -

But that has nothing to do with the parked Transit, that is down to lack of space in the actual parking bays, and the driving ability of those using the spaces, sorry but I honestly don't think that the Transit is impeding the parking spaces in any way.0 -
As it is a public road, anyone who has a taxed vehicle can park there. End of. You could try and get the road designated residents only by approaching the council, but there is often a long queue of roads that have requested this.
For your disabled neighbour, if he is having a problem getting in and out, the council might well be able to designate the space outside his house as disabled badge holders only.0 -
You have to be careful here you could land yourself on the wrong side of the law. While people do do these things and get away with them, letting tyres down could be seen as interfering with a vehicle on the highway which is a criminal offence. These vigilante tactics, while you may get away with them, and may make the owner of that vehicle not park there again - it makes you no better than the person parking there. And at the end of the day someone else will start parking there. Do you want to spend all your life letting down tyres and putting notes on windscreens or do you want to get on with your life and do something worthwhile?!Leave stuff on the windscreen. Yesterday I came home and someone was parked diagonally across two spaces including the one I usually park in. No doubt to park closer to his destination because he was too lazy to walk a few extra yards. Given they would have to reverse out this also meant I could not use the third space. So I used the fourth space along. Ok I am annoyed about his total lack of consideration, but I just park considerately and leave them to it. No point picking a fight over it when you can avoid it. You don't have to stoop to their idiotic level!0 -
i know its taxed but when the driver of said vehicle doesn't live round here and admitted he isnt the owner of said vehicle its pretty frustrating!!0

if said transit wasnt there you could reverse all the way back to get out!! just as the road is designed for this..0 -
Yeah but the way I see it (brought to you by my hi-tech diagram) this is easier....

But you do not own the road, the Transit has every right to park there.0 -

here is a picture showing one of the offending vans....
for some reason my camera has made the picture look wider than it is.
when there are 6 cars parked in the slots on the left it becomes very difficult to move around.
this picture shows the other end of the street and how far the vans stick into the road!!.............
Looks like any other street to me
