hi all im after some advice here.
basically in my close there are 6 parking slots at the side of my house for the 6 houses in my row.
now we are having problems with people leaving transit vans and lorries adjacent to these slots making it very hard to get in or out of the proper slots.
the people that leave there vans etc don't even live on this estate!! they just park up and walk round to there own estate.
the one bloke leaves his car and a ford transit in our close overnight even though he has got his own drive.
im sure its because th residents in there own estate would tell them to !!!!!! off if they were to try and park vans and stuff round there!!
we even get the moms dumping there cars up here too when dropping little william or tenisha off at school.... so thy havent got as far to walk!!(at one point they were parking on the grass outside my house!!)
the traffice we get for such a small close is getting so bad that it is ripping up the road surface!!
are there any laws or any suggestions on what we can do to stop it??
the council say as long as the vehicles are tax etc they cant stop them, but im sure the councilors wouldn't like it if it was happening to them!!
any ideas!!
cheers
steve

Its very difficult to get traffic regulation orders implemented for double yellows in residential areas, infact its practially impossible.
Your councils traffic management department should be able to assess the area and possible put advisory H-bars opposite the bays you speak of.
Or, couldnt you just park where they put their vans. Do it a few times so theres no room for them.
I work in transport and I have a similar problem with people parking opposite the junction of our street where it joins the main road into the scheme. So as you drive up the main road, you have to overtake parked cars before turning right into our street. This means cars leaving my street are surprised to see you effectively on the wrong side of the road infront of them.
The bottom line is that even if you did get some form of traffic regulation order in place the police would never care to enforce it. Its too small fry.0 -
yes it is a public road....
here is a picture showing one of the offending vans....
for some reason my camera has made the picture look wider than it is.
when there are 6 cars parked in the slots on the left it becomes very difficult to move around.
this picture shows the other end of the street and how far the vans stick into the road!!.............0 -
Unless there was permit only parking I can't see where you could go with it. You could paint numbers on the spaces yourself and tell people where to go when they come, but you'd be liable for criminal damage charges and the people parking there would probably quite rightly tell you to "p*** off".
It sounds very much like the parking spaces outside my house. At the moment people park at the bottom of the estate blocking up the road there and walk into town. I dread the day they explore further and find the spaces outside my house and that it's probably the same or a shorter distance to walk to town from here (just across the road 30 seconds walk is pay and display).0 -
Lorry's over a certain size/weight need to be licensed by VOSA (check out thier website for specific details as I am a little rusty on this issue). The licence will state where the vehicles should be parked overnight (it will be a depot somewhere NOT a residential road). If they are breaking the terms then report them to VOSA.
As for the transit is it a business one with a name on the side. If so give the business a ring and explain that X is parking van in your street obstructing your parking bay but he lives in another street AND has a driveway. If not I would park my vehicles in this area for a week or so, so he can't and he will find somewhere else to park.
As for the school kid cars have a word with the school.
If this doesn't work I think it is worth calling the Council highways department and having a meeting in your road to discuss.0 -

Looking at that photo, there is 24 foot gap ( going by the 6 foot fence panels ) at least between the back of parked cars and the side of the transit, how much room do you need?0

when all the slots are full in makes it very hard to get in and out.
one disabled neighbor goes in and out like god knows what just to get out!!0 -
and most nights its an lgv that is parked there0
