I've done it before and wil be doing it again in October once I've paid for this years licence. They just send a letter confirming you have cancelled the dd. Like I'm gonna give them my hard-earned money in advance!0

i would ask them why you must pay in front, what is the reason for this? we all have direct debits for ins etc but we dont pay 6 months up front first, plus over the year we will all have paid 18 months!!, this is their way of having a full years licence money from us plus the extra 6 months all in half the time, think of the interest they will get0

Reading this post highlights how credit orientated we are nowadays! Personally. I am OK with paying a bit in advance for TV licence & all in advance for road tax, rather than charge going up.0

I'm not bothered now about paying 6 months in advance for my TV Licence. It's easier for me to part with £11ish a month than scrape together the full fee when it comes around to renewal time. I know it seems a bit daft the first year when in effect you pay for 1.5 licences but once the payments drop from £20something it gets a lot easier and to be honest, it's not really something I think of anymore.0

You'll then start to pay for your next licence in 12 monthly instalments of around £11 per month (six months before and six months after) and continue paying for licences in this way. If you don't require a licence for the entire year, you may be able to apply for a refund.
Cheeky SCUM!
It's not bad enough they continuously send threatening letters if you don't have a TV, they want you to overpay them by up to 6 MONTHS?!

How bothered will you be lying in the mortuary with the knowledge that you've paid for a couple of months tv licence that you won't be using!
On a side note - I don't have one as I don't watch tv."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -
You pay 12 months in 6 monthly payments (or 26 weekly or fortnightly) and thereafter 6 months in advance and 6 months in arrears, no extra charge. (cash, debit card, DD, text)
You could pay Direct Debit quarterly in advance but they add £1.25 x 4 !!!0
