OS Daily Thread - Saturday 8th August

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 8th August! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
OS darlings
Witchy, Taplady and Ivyleaf - I hope you all start feeling a lot better soon.
Mioliere - Maybe I will try again in the autumn when the garden doesn't need so much attention. I did take up knitting for a while and managed a few squares but that got hidden under the bed too..
to Emmwri, Chikadee and helyg - hope you enjoy it here.
Emmwri - Sorry to hear your back is causing you pain.
sistercas - Hope you manage to sleep better tonight
Nic1 - Sending lots of hugs to your poor daughter. Maybe she should see the Dr again?
Pen-pin - hope the puppys tummy is feeling better after his lil accident
Sunnygirl - let us know how you are doing hon
Cranky - nice to see you!
I am chatting to Tristan again and trying to nag him into eating something....
Weather was lovely again yesterday if a little less sunny than it has been but our gardener man didn't turn up so we still have a half painted fence *sighs*. My OH works two jobs on Thurs, Fridays and Saturdays so sleeps in the afternoons out of sheer necessity. This meant he could not go out and do the fence himself. I don't know why people make arrangements and then cancel them. This is the third time he has done it in the last two weeks. Sorry to gripe but we saved the money up to get someone to help us and I am disappointed.
I think we will have egg and bacon pie tonight as we have bacon pieces in the fridge. Will have it with baked potatoes and salad I think, as we are still trying to eat our way through the lettuce mountain, though checking for snails takes some of the fun out of washing and prepping..:rotfl::rotfl:
We finally posted off the application for the grant towards our Motability car, but it says they take at least a month to get through the process so now it's just a matter of waiting. Once we know if we are getting any money we can open the Car piggy bank we started last year. He has been pretty much ignored for the last few months but at the end of last year we were trying to feed him as often as possible! We named him Percy.
I hope the weekend starts well for all of you.. Warm gentle
to anyone who needs one today.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning peeps
bit too early to really tell what kind of day we`re going to have but at least it`s dry outside so far.
On the off chance that we end up having 2 nice days in a row i have crossed my fingers and put the washing machine on. The grass is ready for a cut too so maybe i shall be lucky.
The dw has finished so i shall be off to empty it shortly and the bm is churning away in the kitchen so all is organised so far.
Today is shall be tweaking my meal plan and writing a shopping list for later and then the bedroom needs the bed changing and a good clean, we have floor to ceiling mirrored wardrobe doors in there and a few doggy nose marks have appeared on them
Little old houndie is still in bed but the varmint is downstairs with me, both of them were frontlined a couple of weeks ago but are still having the odd scratch & nibble has anyone else found that after a few uses it stops being effective? We went back to the vets yesterday and got advocate instead, think that we shall stick to this from now on. I remember using this on one of our other hounds and it was very good.
I`m off to browse for a while before DH gets up, have a good day peeps.
Welcome to all our new posters yesterday :hello:
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon

Morning. Looks set for anotherdry day. Boating was good yesterday. OH came out, but did not like the bobbing around the sea bit when we were fishing, so had to head back to the estuary. moored up to the slipway so that all potty stops could be accomplished and so all was well.
Back to work day today, late shift, so I have the morning to cut the grass and keep on top of things.
Well, have a good day....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning everyone.
My H is planning on doing his charity endurance ride today. It should have been last weekend but due to poor weather and poorly DD it got cancelled. He's aiming for 12 hours in the saddle in aid of The Anthony Nolan Trust. It would have been his cousins 39 birthday last week and he's doing it in memory of her. I don't envy him spending that long on a saddle. Me and cycling don't mix. I shall be partly looking after the kids first thing this morning as well as being his "back up" crew. I just need to get him out of bed now
(not much of an early riser......)
Also wanted to get cracking on doing some planning for my childminding. Keep putting it off and it really needs to be done. I guess I could do that whilst sitting in the car watching H do laps!
Right better head off and feed DD before she starts screeching (new phase we're into oh joy!). Got washing to hang out too.
Haven't read yesterdays thread so will trot off and read that now.
Hugs to those that need it.

Morning Everyone
Its been a lovely couple of days here and we've been making the most of it:jOH is back at work today for a full week so it'll be just me and the kids.I've got the grass to cut later,I've been avoiding it to give the ground time to dry out but its forecast rain here tomorrow so it needs to be done today. The veggies are coming on a treat if only I could stop those darned cabbage white butterflies from laying their eggs on my lovely cabbages then I would be a happy bunny but I suppose it keeps the kids happy searching the leaves and squashing the eggs they find.We had the first chard from the garden yesterday and for once the kids were eager to eat their veggies so growing your own veg really does work:j
I'm determined to enjoy the good weather so nothing much other than a quick vac and a flick with a duster is being done indoors. We've had such an awful summer that each lovely day seems so precious.
I'm meeting OH for lunch later and plan on taking the kids up to Towneley Hall to play on the park and walk round the sculpture trail and if we have enough energy left we might even squizz round the hall itself
I havent got the foggiest what to cook for tea tonight:eek:I think I'll have a freezer dive in a minute and whatever I touch first will be nominated:rotfl:
Diva-Hope from your comments about the new car you have finally found the car of your dreams.Good to hear that Tristan is getting in touch regularly again
I havent had much chance to keep up with the thread these last few days but for those with piggy pox I send a big fat (((((((hug))))))) but from a great distance as I dont want to catch it:rotfl:

Morning all
Good luck to Mr Beans today.
back on the OS wagon at last - this newish job with it's long commute and no nearby shops was really affecting my meal planning but thanks to a suggestion here i am no shopping online and getting a veg box from the milkman which seems to have done the trick.
Off to town to go to the building society in a bit with a dfriend - she paid the deposit for a house she is buying and has been told that the money is "lost in the dx" whatever that means. Once that's done I think lots of coffee and cake will be in order - she is so stressed out love her. After that i shall be relaxing forthe weekend with a fun game of Mad Housework Catchup - sigh
I have to say it's very hard typing with a kitten sitting on your shoulders - especially when she won't sit still
hope the sun is shining where you are
stefI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
