It is also a public highway, the only safe and legal place to drive like an idiot is off road.

People drive like idiots all the time - not indicating then slamming on the brakes at the last minute, driving out in front of you, passing you when you're doing 30mph through a village, hogging the outside lane on a motorway, speeding up when you try to overtake them - i'd prefer to see a well controlled tale slide every time.

    Hyundai Coupe?

I had one for a six month rental about two years ago. Great fun.

I would def suggest a Honda S2000 keep it until the kids arrive and then swap for a Honda Civic Type R - still fun but a bit more sensible.

I wouldn't suggest an MX-5 i'm a girl and I would be embarrased to be seen in one!

Why? They are the best roadster without a doubt - I'm not saying that they are the best car in the universe, but they are definitely the best when it comes to roadsters - and that is what the OP is after.

I just don't like them, I don't think they look that special, they are not that fast and they are ten a penny just my personal opinion.

A Honda S2000 is a far superior, better looking, faster car. In my opinion.

All good choices so far bar the golf, just thought of another. An alfa romeo spider. Looks and sounds gorgeous! Has to be the 3.2 v6 though.

Ok, well I am a woman so an MX5 would be fine for me :-p
I don't want to spend 7-8k! Idon't have that much - a couple of K at most - have a Focus at the mo - can probably get £1500 for it.
NO SUPRA'S! Sorry - but no. Considered the Cupra years ago, but again, no.
Would love to lease, but can't find anywhere that does the kinda thing I want for under 12 months.
Whatever I had I wouldn't be driving like a p&*^k - too old for that now and I only do 3k miles a year.
Did consider Alfa but Italian cars are too expensive to fix/maintain!

It's a flip between the S2000 and the Smart Roadster for the mo!

Thanks for all your comments though!

I think the OP wanted to drive the car not admire it on the hard shoulder.
