Thanks everyone. I'm looking forward to doing my end of month totals and watching that debt total come down a bit!

I should think you are hun, it's so motivating watching your debt falling and knowing that all your hard work isn't for nothing. I'm really looking forward to being able to do that as I can't this month as I have only just started, but next month is a definite.

Keep up the wonderful work hun and keep smiling.

I love doing a ticker in a month like this and seeing the percentage I've paid so far. You'll feel great when you do yours Missy- all the little steps tend to add up. I've even managed to pay £200 for my car MOT and service this month. Pre- MSE that would probably have been additional debt for a bit!

that's how I'm trying to see my £100 I've got to pay for my car today, although it's a lot of money and I'm cross about having to pay it, it's budgeted for and I'm not going to go into my overdraft which has got to be the first time in years!!!

    Sending big hugs your way.

With groceries I found it really helpful to sit down with the receipt and go through it item by item. I split it into 'categories' - protein (meat/ fish/ cheese/ eggs), snacks (crisps, chocolate, biscuits), fruit and veg, carbs (rice, pasta, bread, pulses). Right away I knew we were spending too much on meat and on snacks.

Sorry to comment on an older post but this was such a good point. I've been trying really hard to stick to our low budget but I've never thought to break the groceries into categories and analyse it like that. How helpful! :)

It's the only way to look at it. My main aims at the moment are sticking to and modifying my budget where necessary and throwing anything spare at my debt. Won't have so much to throw at the debts over the next few months I think what with Christmas and car tax but as long as I have the money up front for these things it's an improvement.

I really want to meet my Debt Free Birthday club challenge if I can!

Thanks Missy- it's been tough as I've had a really bad year health wise and I worry this could have implications with my job.

I'm feeling much better than I was but they still haven't found out what is causing the problem....am coming down with a cold now too!

At least this place is keeping my brain occupied. I'm so fed up of being stuck at home and really want life to get back to normal. I miss being well enough to work!

It is a really useful tip. That's why I love the contributors to the forum- full of support and good advice.

Even splitting out cleaning products and toiletries from food really helped me to focus on accurate budgeting and saving. I've saved a lot just by only buying toiletries and cleaning products when I need them now. I still look out when things are going to run out to try and get things on special offer.

Anyone got any ideas on good soup combinations. I have aubergines, courgettes, butternut squash, onions, mushrooms and lots of peppers. I want to make a few different soups and am happy to get OH to buy additional ingredients where necessary!
