OS Daily Thread - Friday 7th August

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 7th August! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS chums, hi.gif
welcome2.gifback Smokey - it's great to read you again as we have missed you.
Bargainbird - I tried and tried to get the hang of crochet but just had to give up, so I do admire your tenacity!
Pink - Hope you have a good time on holiday.
Twink - Feel better soon hon.

Well I am up chatting to Tristan and having a great time though his new meds are making his stomach a bit upset which isn't ideal. I just noticed the sun is rising and the sky looks absolutely beautiful in shades of blue and yellow and orange.. plus the seagulls are waking which set off the chickens, so the dawn chorus has well and truly started!

We decided to have tuna and baked potatoes with salad for dinner last night and I had ordered some corn on the cob which arrived with the Tescos order so we had those with lots of butter as a kind of starter. Totally scrumptious!

It looks like it will be the third day of sunshine today so hoping to do some more garden work, my chilli pepper plants seem very small which is a little concerning as we are already into august and there isn't a flower in sight on any of them. The peppers are doing fine, I have about 10 fruit forming and they are getting quite big. Using the beach windbreak has helped, the plants are in a nice sheltered spot now. Found another two frogs the other day so they are all thriving.

Have sorted through some garden photos and today I will try and work out how to show them off without having to list each one individually. I may try Flikr as imageshack just confuses me!
Warm gentle hugs.gif to anyone who needs one today.

    Morning.

Sunny for a change here. I will be going out in my little boat this morning and enjoying the Fowey area. I managed a few hours last night and caught a few mackerel. The kids loved it and as they thuink it's much better than 'hanging out' or PS 3 then you are on a winner.
The OH said she is coming today, but as she does not really like boats, I am not sure if she 'really' want to come. The biggest worry is what she does when she wants a pee:rotfl:I mean blokes don't have isses with peeing over the side:rolleyes:

Well I had better feed the chickens and get a nice picnic ready. Cheers

    Morning everyone.
Not much OS going on here today as I have my minded child on Fridays. Not quite so nervous today (haven't done a crisis clean this week!) and I went to see a friend who's a CM and she put my mind at ease about a few things.
Anyway might make a chicken pie for tea but this will be when mindee has gone home so it may well end up being for tomorrow.
Weather started off dry and muggy yesterday morning and by 2pm it was raining. again. so all my washing that I hung out got soaked and ended up drying in the house anyway. Today is also damp and cloudy. Am seriously starting to get fed up with this country and it's naff weather

MSD - lucky you with the sunshine. We've not seen a jot her in West Mids. Glad Tristan is happier.

    N9eav - enjoy your fishing

Hugs to all the need them.
Have a good day all OS or not.

    Morning all :)

At work early again, but I did manage to drive in this morning so am feeling very pleased with myself :) Lots to do today.

Dinner will be pork we were supposed to have last night after ending up going out  I wasn't happy about this and the food was awful - but OH insisted and I wasn't in the mood to argue.

Have a good day all, cel x

    Hi everyone.

Smoky - I was only thinking about you yesterday, so it's great to hear from you. Love to the LOs.

MSD - it's lovely that you are talking to Tristan. Perservere with the crochet - it really is easy once it clicks into place, I promise!

N9eav - I sympathise with your OH about what to do when she wants to 'go'!
Especially in a boat full of males!

Well, we actually have some rain here today. It's very light and the gardens definitely need it, and I wouldn't dare complain when I think what you have all had to put up with these last few weeks. The UK forecast for the weekend is good, though, so I hope the sun shines for everyone.

Skyped both the boys last night which was fantastic. DIL2 has a week and a day until her due date so everyone is getting really excited. We will leave here at the end of this week and, hopefully, will be back in the UK in time to see the baby on the day it's born.

Dinner tonight is undecided because I'm going shopping and will decide when I go to the butcher's. Whatever we have it will be with salad, because my tomatoes are doing really well and we have loads to use up.

Anyway, hope you all have a good day.

    Morning all,

Looks a bit overcast here today, tomorrow is meant to be bright sunshine, fingers crossed.

Of to work today with my dd, she is loving the expereince of working, but I am sure she will love the cash even more ;)

House is reasonably tidy, as my buyer popped round last night, she seems such a nice lady, wanted another quick look, and asked me if I would leave the hanging clothes rail thing, that I put up as a tempory measure 10 years ago  I was pleased to do that for her, she is a newly single mum, and I know what a struggle it can be.

I need to do a wash tonight, although how I will get it dry i dont know , lets hope it is nice tomorrow.

Smoky It is soooooooo nice to see you posting again, Happy belated Birthday to your dd, hope you are all ok xx

Pizza for tea, with salad from the garden, my chillis have finally started to grow :T, so I should have a supply to see me through the winter.

Ok need toast and tea, have fun all xx

    Morning everyone

Didn't make it back yesterday:o, and it may only be a quickie today!

Smokybabe - so pleased to see you back, I was just about to post to see if anyone had heard from you and were you and lo's OK? Glad you are.
N9eav - you need to treat your OH to one of these;)

Yesterday I decided to take any personal stuff out of the 'van. This did not mean completely empty it, but take out what is not replaceable, sentimental, or just equipment on a just in case basis, in addition we now added a through the wheel clamp we had, but had not used, in addition to the 2 wheel clamps, hitch lock, post and alarm:rolleyes:. I know nothing stops thieves if they wish to take it, but we have done all we can, together with it being in a tight corner which we have to take care getting in and out, and we know how to do it. Part of this meant I decided to sort through the tins and re-stock, found an emergency tin of stewing steak had blown and the contents were trying to get out of a tiny hole:eek: dates was 2004:eek::eek:, result was a complete check of the tin dates in the 'van which mean most were changed with the store cupboard, and as I will not throw tins unless they blow, I now have to decided what to do with some older tins. A tin of tuna and some tomatos with herbs, will become a tuna pasta bake in the next day or so, the stewing steak type of things will be made into pies, a tin of carrots (I am not really a fan of these) will go with the meat in the pies. A tin of Tip--Top will be used to make a SC Rice Pudding, :eek:Any ideas for a couple of tins of Bacon Grill, apart from the obvious? and Red Salmon - bought when on offer!! A full store cupboard date check of tins will be done over the next few weeks I think:rolleyes:

Today I have the clothes to sort out, hopefully it will be fine after a load of rain last evening and overnight. so I can do some washing and get it dry outside.:D

Still on the paperwork sort - I tend to keep things - just in case - so while still doing the scan as receive, I am now wading through scanning the 19** and early 2000 things so I can shred them and clear some files out. I will still keep them, but now in electronic format.

Looking in my freezer realise I have a load of food in there, so will be doing a freezer and store cupboard challenge over the next few weeks just buying fresh frut and veg so make some space again (and use up a few old tins) :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. Your input may be needed as I use up and get bored.

Pink (and all others going away) - have a good holiday

Off to make a coffee and stir DH

Take care all - Pen-Pin, and all not 100% hope you are OK :grouphug:

Good Morning All. Forecast at 8am said "mainly sunny" which made DH and me splutter over our tea - we must be in the bit that isn't "mainly"!!! It's rainiing hard now and has poured down all night - which isn't good news for the farmer whose wheat grows behind our house.
Good to hear that Smokey's around - I'll pop back to catch up on yesterday's thread.
Need to do a general tidy through today - house looking a bit neglected! Finally caught up completely on ironing again yesterday, so feel pleased with that. Knitting growing slowly, but have decided that I have to do at least one hour's worth every day...so far have done more, but I need to know it will get finished - I have cupboards full of half finished projects!
Hope you all have a good day.

    Morning all

After a few days of sun, it rained last night & the garden's full of slugs - our visiting hedgehog will probably be back tonight for a feast! :rotfl:
Working at lunchtime, so got to take toddler to my sister's again - she's had him Monday & Wednesday as well, so got her a nice pressie to say thanks. DH had dinner money each time I worked, so got to have a few really cheap teas to make up, freezer tea last night, h/m made soup tonight & apple/bramble crumble (ancient cooking apples in fridge & last year's brambles in freezer).

Really cracking on with de-junking, freecycled some stuff this week & loads more to get rid of. Think we'll store the real rubbish in the garage & hire a skip in a few weeks & tell family so they can chuck in their stuff to help fill it. Shows what a state we're in if I'm considering a skip!

Toddler just woke up - been asleep since 7 last night, amazingingly long sleep! - so off for brekkie - see you later. :D

    Hugs & kisses

Donny-gal - don't forget to back up the documents you scan (says she, who hasn't backed anything up for weeks and weeks!!) You've done all you can to keep your van where it belongs - with the people who worked hard to pay for it. It would take a determined thief to make off with it now. How dare anyone think they can help themselves to things that others have worked hard for? It's such a shame you've had to go to so much trouble, as well as being anxious, over some scumbag who can't be bothered to work for the things they want. It was a good thing you found that blown tin, though, wasn't it? Good luck on using up the contents of the tins. I suppose you could always freeze them until you find a use for them.

I'm just watching the weather in Bristol and it's a lovely start to the day there, so I hope it spreads all over the UK!

Redruby - glad your DD is enjoying work, and I'm sure she'll enjoy the fruits of her labours! The house sale looks really positive, doesn't it? Have you found somewhere else yet?

Well, I'm just waiting for the BM to finish making the dough, then I'll put the loaves to rise while I go shopping.

    See you all later.
