Instructions for adding free pictures to your listings

This tutorial will show you how to save money listing your items on eBay using Turbo Lister 2 and a free photo host. You may even make more money as your listings will look fantastic!

Turbo Lister

Turbo Lister is a tool for preparing your listings so that you’re able to upload when you’re ready. This means that you can prepare the listings as and when you have the time and then upload when there’s a cheap listing day – saving even more money.

This is a free tool and is available for download from http://pages.ebay.co.uk/turbo%5Flister/ . The programme runs through you’re computer so you don’t have to pay to be online while you’re preparing your listing – great for those of you who dial up.

The fees from eBay are still applicable, but the best feature is that when you use Listing Designer via Turbo Lister it’s free! This makes a saving of 7p per listing – not much but every little helps.

Photo Hosting

Free photo hosting is a great way to save money on your listings. Ebay’s photo hosting costs 12p for each photo after the first one which is free. However, if you use a free photo host you can insert a little bit of text into the html code (don’t panic instructions are on the way further down!) and you can add as many pictures as you want for free.

For the purposes of this tutorial, I have used https://www.photobucket.com as it’s the one I use.

Instructions

Download Turbo Lister and register.

Register for a free account with your photo host. I use PhotoBucket as their download is very quick compared to others.

Upload your photos to the host. PhotoBucket can upload 19 photos at a time. Click on the pull down list next to ‘submit multiple images’ and click on the number you want to upload. Click on browse and find your image from the computer. When you’re all done browsing, click on submit. This will take a few minutes depending on your connection.

Open Turbo Lister and click on new. You’ll get a blank page. Fill in the items like you would using eBay’s ‘Sell your Item’. Then click on ‘Description Builder’. You’ll get a new window and on the left of the screen ensure that ‘Use Designer’ is ticked. Make sure the main part of the window is showing ‘design view’ (using the tabs under the words ‘enter your description’) – then have a play around with the themes.

When you have the design you want, just type your description as normal – but don’t forget to use the colour pallet. Every time you want a picture to go in, just type in something which will remind you want picture you want to put in, ie ‘PIC OF DVD’.

When you’ve finished, click on the ‘HTML’ tab. Using the scroll bar to the right, run through and look for your reminder.

Open a browser to your photo host. Find your photo and click on the ‘TAG’ reference and copy this. Go back to your item in Turbo Lister and paste over your reminder with the TAG.

The picture will be as big as the original is, so to reduce the size, just click on the picture (in design view) and click on the ‘handle’ at the corner of the picture and pull to the size you want.

When this is listed, the picture will be clickable to prospective buyers, but will open up a new browser for Photo Bucket. To stop this, go to ‘HTML’ view and find the TAG. Where it says <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"> replace the http with the url for your picture. To do this, go to your photo host, and copy the url against the picture. Go back to Turbo Lister and find the http reference and past the url. Therefore, it should read something like <a href="http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e151/woonat/Ebay Template/otherinfo.gif" target="_blank">

Keep repeating this until you have all your photos inserted.

Now go to the ‘Preview’ tab and check everything looks good, make any changes, and then save the description, and then press ‘save’ again, to save the item.

When you’re ready to upload to eBay, go to ‘my items’ in Turbo Lister. Click on the items you want to upload, and then press ‘Add to upload’. Then click on ‘Waiting to upload’ on the left of the screen, then click on ‘upload all’. The programme will connect with eBay and let you know how much the listing is going to cost you before you upload.

When you upload like this, all your items will have the same end time. To increase my sales, I generally list one every 10 minutes, so buyers have the option of last minute bidding.

I hope this has been helpful and simple for you to follow.

Please post here or PM me if you have any questions or you would like to see the work in progress. Also, if any of the instructions are not easy to follow or I've messed up - please let me know.

Best of luck and happy savings!

Carrie483 - I'm sorry about that! You shouldn't have been - always make sure you ask it calculate the fees before listing. Also, if you relisted via Ebay if the item didn't sell you will be charged the designer fee. I've listed loads and have never been charged the listing designer fee. Just try again but remember to calculate fees before hand.

One question on photobucket. If I use the 'Tag' option and put it into my description in Ebay would the image pop up? or would it be a link which other members of Ebay will have to click in order to see my image?

    Thanks.
