    Hi Lizwiz,

Welcome to MSE, and sorry that the first reply you got was from our resident troll!

Did you work for the few years before being in receipt of ESA? If so, you may still be entitled to it (minus the top up) once your partner is back at work.

Could I ask how long you have been unwell for, and how long it is expected to last?

Have you applied for help with your rent and council tax? You may be entitled to some help even when your partner is back at work.
    Gone ... or have I?

LizWiz - don't feed the troll chuck - he's been all over the site tonight posting offensive nonesense.

On the angle of DLA - nothing final about it - you can recieve it while you are working. It's more abou those extras you need as a disabled person rather that writing you off - who knows with a little extra cash to take the pressure off/buy services you need you may recover faster and be able to get back to work sooner.:T

I'm unlikely to stop needing HRM and I'm applying for MRC with every intention of going back to work - you try and stop me!:D

Thank you dmg24 and no worries about the troll we eat little boys for breakfast round these parts (might have to Mark if we cant get help so be scared very very scared ;))

In the years before receipt of ESA I worked 16 hours a week as my son is disabled so just part time hours. I was classed as a single parent at the time. Since my illness my partner has moved in to help as I wasnt coping to great. Its been going on for around 2 1/2 months now and im getting help for anxiety. I am hoping that within the next few months I will be well enough to get back into work.

We havent applied for housing benefit or council tax relief yet as its Monday he starts the job and we were told we wouldnt be entitled but that was just word of mouth.

Hiya yes I have but im not sure if I worked it out right. According to that we could get a little help with Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit and possibly Working Tax Credit of a small amount. Im just not sure I filled in the calculator right  hence my post on here as I thought someone may be in a similar situation and have a rough idea.

Thank you Spikeysoul for your advice re DLA and im trying so hard not to rise to the bait and dont worry I find him amusing rather than upsetting. Just a shame he will be banned so we wont all be around when he falls on hard times to offer the same amount of useful information;)

I also see he was rather miffed recently when he lost his job and they wouldnt pay him benefit? Obviously not enough contributions and I thought they had done away with YTS years ago;)

If you paid sufficient NI Conts whilst working, your ESA may be conts based, and you will be able to continue receiving the payment whilst your partner is working. However, working sixteen hours you will be borderline, your award paperwork should tell you whether your award is conts based or just income based.

DLA is only available for those that have been unwell for three months, and where there is an expectation that the condition will last for another six months. However, you can apply before the initial three months, but you will not receive any payment until after this qualifying period.

Definitely apply for LHA and CTB, the worst they can say is no!

I find trolls like mark2117 pretty good for stress relief. Maybe we could get him on prescription from the NHS? ;)

Talking of (free) prescriptions, you may be entitled to Working Tax Credits once your partner is at work.

Have a play with www.entitledto.co.uk to get some more definite figures.
