Are Budget Airlines worth it?

  • If you just need to get from A - B then budget airlines do the trick. If you prefer to be a bit of a snob then pay extra and go with BA/Air Berlin etc

Most of the time I don't use budget Airlines because of the cost, but rather because the main airlines are compeltely ignoring regional airports.

Why would I travel 4+ hours to go down to London to fly on BA or TAP to go to Lisbon, when I could fly with EasyJet from Liverpool (1 hour from home), even if it's around the same flight price?

Is this slating of budget airlines not getting a tad tedious?

If they work for you, use them. If they don't, spend you money elsewhere.

Not sure I would call myself a snob just cause I prefer to use BA over Easyjet ... they are just as cheap as Easyjet ....

isplumm i suppose you live close to heathrow then, as a previous poster pointed out, traveling to an airport can put the price up a LOT.

    Terribly tedious, I agree.

I can't help but think that the success over bank charges has caused people to view *all* charges for anything as being EVIL RIPOFF SCAMS.

Do we lose the customer service when we budget on our Air Travel?

I personally don't think they are worth it and would rather pay a few more quid. I found my self nodding, then nodding again when i read this.

    You miss the point entirely.

Before budget airlines came about; from the likes of Newcastle airport the only scheduled flights you had were to the likes of London and Dublin and a few expensive flights to further in Europe. Other than that it was charters.

Now with the budget airlines you have lots of destinations flying on a regular basis. So it's not a matter of 'paying a bit more' 99% of the time the low cost carrier is the ONLY carrier flying to your destination from your local airport.

Just compare Polish aviation pre-2004 with post 2004! Ryanair and WizzAir have transformed the aviation scene here - my local airport has about 4 destinations if you exclude Ryanair and WizzAir from the calculation - and this is one of the biggest airports in Poland!
