DSG Product Replacement Vouchers - NOT HAPPY WITH AMOUNT
Comments

Thanks for your messages I appreciate it, I have decided to take the offer anyway.
What was the original issue it developed after 10 months? Is that issue related to the mobo failure?
Why has it taken so long to get an offer from them?
What is the make/model and spec of the laptop in question?
My argument would be that spending £500 on a laptop which developed issues then ultimately failed after only 14 months could possibly be a SOGA issue, and I would want the replacement to be of equivalent value, not necessarily spec. Especially if it's taken them this long to even make an offer.
But this would depend on the specifics of the case, hence my questions. The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

Why do the DSG group have so many motherboard failures??
I've been messing about with computers for years and could count on the fingers of one hand the amount of motherboard failures I have come across.
I would rather find out whats wrong with it a try to repair it (this is the techy forum afterall)
Dunno wots wrong = change mobo!!!!!0 -

because they sell lots of hp's with the nvidea gfx faults which on their sheets is classed as a mobo failure for some reason therefore they replace alot of mobo's and it become habit, i wouldnt be surprised if they just replacce the mobo in almost every case just to see if it fixes it.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
After 10 months the issue was that when connecting the power adaptor to the laptop it did not recognize it; it took a great deal of moving the power cord and power jack for it to start working.
Due to personal problems I did not have the time to take this further.
But then it started working fine until it completely malfunctioned after 14 months.
After 4 letters I sent to them since the fault, I received a phone call this week from the manager, who made me the offer.
Would it not be cheaper for them to repair the laptop themselves other than offering we money.
The model of the laptop is a Toshiba Equium A200.
Would it be better for me to write into them again requesting a larger payout, or ask the manager over the phone.

That fault is not mobo failure, it's detachment of the power socket from the mobo. To be fair to DSG, this is more commonly due to user mishandling than a manufacturing fault. It's always the weak point on laptops, especially if they're used on mains power while resting on a lap.
The repair cost would be around £100, 95% of which is labour (the part itself is peanuts). So I think you have got a very reasonable deal.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
The store have the capability to call up the voucher issuers and persuade a higher amount if it's warranted - but i have no idea if it is warranted if you dont give any more info.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

Did you take out the extended warranty? If you did, then you can get someone instore to ring up and issue you vouchers to a higher value. We do it all the time0

There's only one bigger mistake than buying at DSG-and that's buying their overpriced extended warranty at the same time.
Compare the same cover independently and you can see why they push this so hard-it must account for a massive part of their profit margin. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Yes Macman you may say that, but i have had some good experiences with it, so im all up for it, not just becuase i work there, infact im due to leave, but that aside, it depends what you get out of it.0
