DSG Product Replacement Vouchers - NOT HAPPY WITH AMOUNT

Hi,

I purchased a toshiba laptop in 2007 from currys. Purchase for £500.00.

I started having problem at 10 months after purchase.

After 14 months I had complete motherboard failure, the lapto will not switch on.

After several letters currys have come back to me and offered £350.00 in Replacement Vouchers.

I am not happy, will it not be cheaper for them to replace the motherboard.

This offer is too low, i am looking for any advice on how i can get currys to increase the offer.

I anyone else has had similar problems please do leave a message

Thanks

It depends what the warranty says, if it's still under full warranty, surely they have to fix or provide a replacement model... however if it's out of main warranty, and it's 2 years old (purchased in 2007...), then I guess they are offering £350 as a gesture, can you buy a similar replacement laptop today for that price (that surely is the main issue)?

My main advice, far too late for you, is never purchase IT equipment from DSG/PC World etc.

£350 aint bad if its out of warranty.
Downside is its vouchers so you have to spend with them again.

Personally I would take that 350 and buy yourself a Dell laptop or Samsung N110 or similar for around 300 from their site and spend the remainder on some other gizmo.

Alternatively go through consumer affairs - as the Tosh was faulty after 10 months, and they have not repaired it after 14 - might have to wait for compensation and you might end up with only a little more perhaps. And a chat with Toshiba directly maybe to explain the wonderful experience of shopping for Toshiba at Dixons.

The warranty with DSGi is repair, or replace with equal or higher specification. If you actually listed the specifications of your machine that you sent into repair, we could easily tell you if £350 is going to replace with a machine equal or higher..

Now there is a Dell currently on offer, £369 (yes, £19 more than your vouchers), but it gives you a Celeron Processor, 3gb ram, etc etc. Now, if your Tosh DIDN'T have a Celeron, and actually had a Pentium of some sort then maybe you can argue. Even down to things like, my old laptop had 4 usb ports, this only has 3.. as long as you can PROVE you are NOT getting the same or higher, then you ask in store (well in PCW anyway) for them to speak to the department that issues the vouchers, and get an increase...

if you just think that £350 isn't good enough because you paid £500, well i'm afraid it doesn't work like that...
  • If it's still under warranty, call toshiba, they may give you a reference number, then you can get a new laptop from curry's.
If you think it will take more than 3 hours to fix a software problem it is probably quicker to reinstall windows. 30 mins to install windows, 2½ hours to reinstall all your nice software

If they cannot replace the motherboard, then they will offer the most suitable remedy
afforded to them, in your case vouchers.

If you disagree with the value offered, then you could take legal action, but you will almost certainly not be awarded a higher amount, and that's if you win.

    noo argue

i had my £800 hp laptop 2 years old replaced with an offer of £650 in vouchers

i managed to bump this up to £900 because i argued that the webcam was not the same quality....

of course there were other things but i got from £800 to £900 just on the webcam alone

    so it definitely worth trying
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

If it's out of warranty then they're only offering it on a goodwill basis anyway. Take the vouchers, buy a Dell (you can get a limited range in DSG, put another £150 towards a better one if needed), then if you do get later problems you can deal with Dell and not the useless DSG.

    Edit: sorry, make that £50.
