Thinking about going with them, the quote I have through !!!!!!!!! was very competitive including the breakdown cover. Is the breakdown cover the 'Pay & Reclaim' type?

No, when you call them you go straight through to the RAC who send a patrol

Thanks, in that case it a very good deal _ One more question:

I'm currently with budget & each time I've change my car /moved house they've screwed a 25 quid 'admin' fee off me for re-printing the documents with a new details. Any idea if ecar do this too? (Maybe looking to change my car in the new year)

I'm on the Pay As you Go policy, and everything is amended via the website and then they send you a new cover note for the next month.

There are no admin charges and you can amend the policy as soon as your NCB is confirmed.

    Hey again,
Update on my Puma write off claim from back in Oct....crash was on 18th Oct, other drivers fault, and i got a courtesy car the very next day(i didnt have courtesy car cover but i guess because it was the other drivers fault i got one anyway). Ive had to speak to quite a few different departments since then re my settlement money but i have finally managed to sort that out after ringing them every day for nearly a week to make sure the cheque had been authorised...then signed...and again to double check that it had been posted. Cheque finally arrived 22nd Dec after been told numerous times in Nov that it was in the post! I kept the courtesy car for 5 weeks but didnt need it after that so gave it back.

    Basic review of departments:

Angel Assist: Appear to co-ordinate between departments, were efficient and helpful, no probs getting through to talk to someone.

Nation Wide Claims/crash repair: Quick to respond collecting the car, average on assessing damage and completion of report, slow to process claim and even slower to pay out cheque (took numerous phonecalls to find out why nothing was progressing)

New Law Solicitors: Deals with injury claim and reclaiming costs, excellent overall so far and quick on sorting out physio etc.

Help Hire: Courtesy car hire. Arrived with courtesy car within 36hours of reporting accident. Brand new Mazda Sport which i was entitled to keep until 1 week after cheque arrived. Only issue here was that Help Hire kept ringing me for info because they couldnt get though to anyone at Ecar!

Overall claim process seems a little slow but i have nothing to campare to in the past. Quite happy with things so far. Only pain in the butt now is that the guy who ran the red light and hit me is now denying running a red light, even though there was a witness who saw him go through on red and he was given a ticket for running a red light...so its off to court we go!

    Sarah :)

Ecar were a waste of time for my 19 year old daughter. £1500 against £730 from Elephant.

It's obviously different for everyone and this is the reason you have to shop around. I hope you tried more than these two places. Luckily for me, ecar was at least £300 cheaper than all the others. There's no magic insurer that's cheaper than all other insurers, unfortunately, despite what the insurers advertising on TV would like you to think.

Shopping around is *not* a "waste of time" when you can potentially save £hundreds.

I have just got my renewal from ecar. Surprisingly not more expensive than starting a new policy. I wonder how long it will be before ecar get up to the dirty tricks of all the other insurers. I will be shopping around but I doubt I'll get any cheaper.

Some feedback on their claims handling. My wife's car was written off in 2007. It was a clear 3rd party fault accident and we got the payout pretty quickly and we were very happy with the efficiency of their service. What took time was getting the accident recorded as no-fault on eCar's system meaning that when we came up for renewal the premium was higher. It took a few frantic phone calls in the days leading up to the renewal date to get them to fix the problem so that in the end we didn't have to pay extra.

We probably won't renew with them next time however as I have been stupid enough to get 2 speeding tickets. I reported them immediately and it didn't affect the car or bike insurance policies in force at the time, but when the bike came up for renewal in November it caused a significant price jump. I'm guessing the same will happen when the car policy renews this year.

b.t.w. For the bike I rang around (before Martin's bike insurance finder was published) and got insurance for the two bikes fully comp with business use for less than 120 quid - but without breakdown cover so I took out joint all-bells-and-whistles RAC cover using Tesco Clubcard vouchers. Nice result.

Have been through Martin's insurance system and then found eCar on the Quidco site with an impressive £60 cashback.

Taking this into account I've got an excellent quote, £341 = £281 - and despite what it says above, that still includes breakdown cover.

Asda was next cheapest for me, they use very similar software to eCar.

Good to read of positive experiences above.
