Mondeo springs broken!

May be a Mondeo-specific issue? My 2003 Ford Focus is still going strong after 110,000 miles. Definitely second the "get done immediately" posts though.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
Do something amazing. GIVE BLOOD.0 -
It's just cheap parts. Saab, Vauxhalls, Ford's and Renaults are the most common for springs snapping.0

Quite a common problem. Springs aren't expensive though.Happy chappy0

Why is it when some poor !!!!!! comes to ask advice they get the same 'should have bought a decent car' advice!
Ohh to be perfect and know everything!!
because people watch top gear which makes them instant motoring gurus
Also its because people get sucked in by all the marketing and believe it0 -

I agree, particularly when the car in question was lauded by the motoring press, and is used by hundreds of thousands of fleet users.
I could tell horror stories about most makes of cars - BMW cylinder coatings - not cheap. Alfa Romeo - suspension, electrics, cam belts.
For those who gave advice anewman and scotsman4th, thanks, I am going to change them ASAP. I may even change the front shocks at the same time.0 -

Don't include me in that list, I don't watch that drivel.;)0 -
springs are cheap, do it before you drive it again. and dont forget, your driving style is a major contributor to the life of your springs.
for instance, take speed bumps too quick, regular kerbing etc...
90,000 miles for a set of springs aint that bad though.0 -
My old Astra broke both front springs a few weeks after I has it at about 90k...
A chav in black ran across in front of me, in the dark, on a roundabout..it was the emergency stop that broke them both. I should have run the !!!!!! down. (J/K)0 -
Had both sides of my Focus break between about 120k and 140k miles - lots of country roads did them in I suspect!0

Apparently European made springs do not have the ends tappered which allows corrosion to set in, added to increased stress from speed humps etc.
HonestJohn has been going on about this for years so if you are interested you can have a search on his site or the Telegraph.0
