Mondeo springs broken!

I have just taken the 2000 Mondeo Verona in to have the tracking checked, because it is pulling very slightly to the left. There are no odd noises and the ride quality is still excellent.
The mechanic called me in and showed me the front springs, they are both broken at the top, there are obvious signs of corrosion. Does anyone out there know if this is pretty common for a 9 year old 90,000 mile car? I would not have been aware of it, but for the slight pulling.
How long can I keep driving it for? What further damage will it do?
Eagerly awaiting your replies.

Replace immediately. It can make the car handle poorly, and affect braking efficiency. Not to mention what will happen if they reduce in height again at 70mph on the motorway!
  • I had to do a spring on the wifes 03 plate 70k mile Fiesta (over a year ago)so not out the park. More to do with the state of the roads than anything else.

Cheap manufacture as well! If the 15 year old springs on my 130k+ miles Skoda are still strong and can still pass the MOT, Ford must be using cheap springs.

More likely Ford build quality, or lack of it.;)

Spring went on my old Mondeo (4ys old).

Mine went at the bottom, the rubber coating splits, water gets in and it sits in a puddle happily corroding away.

Spring also went on my Saab, much more entertaining than the Mondeo, unwound itself and ripped the front tyre apart whilst I was going round a roundabout.

Yep, but I've still got a Mondeo that'll probably need springs, shocks, brake discs, pads, DMF and a few other things. I need to blame something other than the fact I was stupid enough to buy a Ford.

most !!!!!! stuff these days has the dreaded DMF.

Buy a quality car like a Saab. Oh hang on, no, wait... They have worse stuff than DMF failure! Manifolds, turbos, intercooolers, fuel pumps, lift pumps etc...
