Question for separated couples with children

Hiya,
My parents split when my sister and I were 10 and 6. We stayed at my dads every weekend (one weekend Fri night to Sat night - following weekend Fri night to Sunday lunchtime and so on).
However, when we became teenagers we wanted to spend some time with our friends at the weekends (bowling, swimming etc) and being HS students we had a lot of homework to do also so we changed the arrangement to staying every other weekend (Fri-Sun).
