Pursuing complaint with Thomson holidays?

  • I think that you had every reason to complain - we once went booked a holiday with a washing machine, only to find it not working when we got there - it was eventually fixed on the last day.

I would be most annoyed if I'd booked a villa with a washing machine and it didn't work because I would have packed much less stuff knowing what I had packed could be washed while there. On our last villa holiday we had a washing machine and it fab as I was able to quickly wash stuff that my daughter had trashed - she seems to attract muck to her clothes wherever she goes!
  • If you book a holiday sepcifically because of certain things - ie. TV and dishwasher, then IMO you should get them. Why should you 'wash up the old fashioned way' - your on holiday !!!!!!!

No wonder holiday companies get away with doing whatever they like, if people are prepared to accept it. These items should have been repaired whilst they were away and very quickly too.

OP - we stopped going on 'pagkage' holidays years ago - they are simply not worth it - my friend has just had to rebook her holiday as Thomas Cook decided to make a last minute change from a 2 bed to a 1 bed - a change they said was 'insignificant'.

Try booking a villa privately next time - I know it doesnt help this time though sorry.
Thank you for your sensible comments and for seeing my POV...

We paid for A, B and C etc. - we didn't get A and B. We gave them a chance to fix it but they didn't.

Clearly the poor attitude of Thomson means we won't use them again, and friends and family will obviously get to hear of their "service".

A voucher therefore doesn't cut it.

sorry, you've got £150 back. I don't think you can ask for anymore

Do you have any proof that the washing machine and tv didn't/still doesn't work?

If you don;t then its all well and good coming home and then ranting about it but if you had really thought it through at the time you would have undenyable proof of your misgivings.

They will probably be very safe just saying as far as they know everything worked and unless you can prove otherwise tough luck basically.

I'm not saying that you don;t have a point - just that alot of people complain about holidays when the money and the sunshine has gone.

at least you got a holiday this year. I hope you enjoyed it apart from the above.

No, but they were disappointed that their parents spent two hours with a rep who assured us he'd sort things out, when we could have been at the beach.

I don't have £150. I have a voucher which is only usable against another Thomson holiday.

The rep came to the villa and saw for himself that things were wrong, and logged it in his report so there is no dispute about the truth of my statements.

We didn't come home and rant. We followed the complaint process to the letter and we are disappointed with Thomson's response.

I am simply asking advice for what avenues to pursue.

I really really hope that you get something - although I dont hold out much hope for you as you are basically just a number to them.

We actually have a timeshare now - cost us a small fortune, but we have had 5 years of fantastic holidays since (so far) - if we have a problem, we ring reception and they sort it immediately! Cleaners come in 5 days a week and as we 'own' it we get a say in what they do and they actually care about keeping us happy.

I wouldnt touch any of the large tour operators with a barge pole now - unfortunately we still have to fly with them though  had problems with the flights this year AGAIN.

Anyway good luck - keep us informed of what happens :o

Apologies - i meant you have a £150 voucher. This is what you deserve for your distress.

Thompsons are not stupid and deal with 1,578 complaints like yours every week (yes its a random figure!)

you are getting a fair percentage of your holiday cost back, well done for kicking up a fuss and upsetting thompsons - now every price in the brochure goes up 1% next year to pay for you and everyone like you that demands monetary recompense after a holiday.

and if your not happy with a voucher then go and sell it on ebay. Be sure to tell any potential purchasers how good thompsons holidays are though .

IMO a voucher is an insult. The op was not happy with her holiday - why would she go back to them?

I run a business - should I sell someone a kitchen, only give them part of what they asked for and then when they complain offer them a voucher to redeem against their next new kitchen? I dont think so. Mind you isnt that similar to what MFI did

yes that is kind of my point. I will shout it again THOMPSONS ARE NOT STUPID!

they deal with this all the time. The OP is lucky to get a voucher let alone demand cash back.

think about it, the OP takes this as far as she can and it ends up in court - the judge takes one look as the case details and finds out Thompsons have ALREADY made a Goodwill gesture of a £150 voucher! Just what exactly else could they have done?

Yes, you are going to say "well give her £150 in cash instead!"

but then we are back to my original message "THOMPSONS ARE NOT STUPID"

bad mouth Thompsons all you like - but don't for one minute think they don't know what they are doing in this kind of situation. You will get bitten!

I doubt I have the power to upset Thomsons, but if they are a forward-looking company they will look at the complaints they get and improve.

The travel industry is in trouble and those that focus on good customer service will survive.

I don't subscribe to the view that complaints put the prices up for others.

If they had sorted the problem swiftly I would be singing their praises on TripAdvisor, and another part of this forum.

For the record the voucher is not transferable.

For information I stayed in a Handpicked Hotels hotel last weekend and couldn't fault it. I have emailed the hotel and named employees who made the experience special and posted a positive review on TripAdvisor.

So would I go on a Thomson City break or stay in Handpicked again? Tough call.
