    Hi

Are you using a fee paying IVA as it doesn't sound suitable for you, why don't you call one of the debt charities and see what they would recomend as you might be able to switch and get more to live off, your budget seems very tight.

    Just an idea

I would check with one of the free debt charities whether they think you were missold the IVA - am not sure if you can complain to the company if so but worth a try.
Also can you not get out of your contract if there is no signal? Surely a contract is a 2 way thing - you pay them for goods and services - if you can access the services then surely they are breaking the contract? what do they have to say about that? Especially if you checked via a coverage checker to see if it would be suitable. It was on the one show I think or some programme done by Dominic littlewood and someone claimed for breach of contract and eventually got out of the contract and got their money back I think.
Perhaps you can get some free legal advice on this? or maybe try on another board - there must be someone who can help with this. It seems wrong to me to pay for something you can't use but I guess it depends on how it was sold to you etc.
As others have said hopefully the childcare issue should resolve itself in terms of the finances soon.

All IVAs have to be set up by an Insolvency Practitioner and they all charge fees - usually around 8K.

This is why I asked originally what the aim of the IVA was instead of bankruptcy. For someone with 17k of debt and in rented accommodation with little or no surplus income an IVA doesn't make sense.

This looks like a clear case of poor advice
  • Thank you every one for all your good advise.

Today, i've thought a little more positively, my lo has just told me mummy if u skint i won't have a chocolate bar tonight. Kids are so sweet.

    Well today i have :
    • found a new car insurance supply which is £102 cheaper per year.
    • found a new energy supplier which is £163 cheaper per year.
    • List various items on Ebay including a Me to you bear collection  (but I know that this will help me) :cheesy:
Its a start in the right direction....I think

I am very confused about my IVA, at the time I was at an all time low briefly went though an IVA and signed. Part of me does regret this. I didn't know about realising equity at the end and the fees, I was told from the company it was my only option. Maybe I was a little bit pushed, I was single with small child and told no other option, i wanted the calls to stop. I didn't know any better.
  • I have today reduced my BT phone bill, found out that my contract with them had expired so was paying full rates and on wrong package.

Was paying £38.00 per month in line rentals alone now going to be paying £24.00 per month SAVING £14.00 per month. This means my DD was £50.50 but will now be approx £29.00. Total Saving £21.50
  • Hey you are doing really well! You should put the updated figures into your SoA and repost it to give you a boost.

Do look into whether another mobile provider gives you better coverage as you could possibly cut that joint phone spend more if you had reliable coverage from a mobile so that you could cut the landline all together.

Also do visit the O/S board for help with meal planning - you really would be amazed at what they can do, they'll have you living for a week off one small chicken before too long! :)

The up you income board would be a good move too, there are some great ways to earn some cash on the side, my friend delivers free papers and it is great, he gets a nice walk outside to do as and when he has free time.

    Keep up the good work.

    Hi Kat,

Starting to feel a little more positive, spoke to my mobile phone provider there calling me back on monday once they have reviewed my case, dont thin i can terminate contract but they're pretty sure I can reduce it dramatically.

Found new supplier for Electric, but found out today the my currently supply has used estimates so waiting for a new recalculated bill before I can switch.

Its amazing how talking can help so much. I'll keep you all posted. :rotfl:
