Parking Sensors

Any decent car audio fitter will also do parking sensors. Our local Audi dealer uses one.
I find the sensors invaluable, very handy in supermarkets car parks when someone walks behind the car just as you begin to reverse - particularly if a van has parked next to you and you can't see properly. This has happened to me on a quite a few occasions.
I only assume those who seem to have an inbuilt hatred of a few sensors which beep when you reverse have a starting handle, non power steering, flip open windows and a hand throttle on their vehicles.0 -
Hi Daveyjp. Well summed up, i do get really aggrevated when you put a topic up tp get some help you some ar-- talking about driving techniques/ looking over your shoulder, doing this doing that i cannot understand why they cannot give an answer to the relevent topic if they dont want to dont reply. Both my wife and i like parking sensors if others dont-tough0

Wouldnt drive a car without them.
Its another pair of eyes and anyone who has had a small child walk out behind them after checking the space was clear to reverse into wouldnt be taking the **** out of you.
You have 3 mirrors on your car and you cant see all three at once so sensors are a great backup.
To answer your question there are loads of aftermarket ones out there.
I have bought some dolphin ones based on the back of loads of research and also an auto express best buy review. They are £50 for a set of four at the back of the car. They will also get their own guy to fit them for £85 and he will come to you to do it.
In my experience the fitting of them can be done yourself but getting someone who does them day in and day out means they are put in at the best height and location for your car and get better results.
They are going in on sunday so will let you know how good they are next week. They also do a front and rear option and also a small video camera option if you physically want to see the space - lcd attaches to your mirror and that was about £100 plus fitting.
Most retailer fit ones are aftermarket jobbies anyway.0 -
There we go.We can get a good sensible reply from some of the nice people on the forum,Wouldnt drive a car without them.

Many thanks.:T0 -
I do take your point on this, the main reason why we want them is because my wife has arthritis in her shoulders,so all the nobs on the forum if you cant give a sensible answer PLEASE DONT reply.
Please just ignore the smart remarks you will get them in every forum.!!
I suggest you get some fitted by a firm that specialises in them there are companies about that do just that!! .if you pay cheap you get cheap
The remarks about you have eyes etc does not take into account that many cars now you cannot see the front end and there are more low bollards being placed in supermarket car parks.
As someone has said its like sat navs use them as a guide but trust your instinct as well as you can sometimes get false signals if it picks up a grid in the road0 -
The only use I can see for them is for people like my mother who (until we hung a tennis ball from a piece of string at a length where it would touch her windscreen when she was in the right place) would only ever get her car into the garage by driving forward until it hit the stuff stored against the back wall of the garage.
And yes, I'm a woman driver, I drive a flipping big car (estate) and I get quite a kick out of watching blokes stand by watching me back into a space and blatantly thinking "oh that bird's never going to get in there" ...and nailing it first time. (I can't parallel park for love nor money though and just go find a less annoying space to get into).
As for knowing where the front corners of the car are (I've got an annoyingly sloped boot so they're hard to see), if I really want to check my front corners are clear of something - I just bung my headlights on to give me an easier guide!
I can see the use of them as a backup - but I'd never trust anything like that over my own judgement - same as a sat-nav... useful as a backup but I have animated arguments with mine when it wants to send me a stupid route!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Thats a great reply but whats it got to do with recommending parking sensors.0
-
Its just all about convenience !! if you can afford them have them ??
I can stick my arm out of the window and indicate left turn or right turn or slow down if I want but its more convenient to use the indicators that's why cars have them .
Remote locking I can put a key in the door and lock the door but its more convenient.to use a button
If there is something which makes life a little bit easer use it !! It does not prove you are a better or worse driver if you have parking sensors fitted .
In my opinion women make safer drivers than men
