I have flown Virgin twice and American Airlines once, all in ecomony.

I would without a doubt fly Virgin everytime now.

AA was horrible! We were on a long flight from London to Miami and only got fed twice and got one free drink, the entertainment was very poor, not much choice at all

The flight is ONLY 8 hours long.. why do you need more food than two "meals" in 8 hours.

And if you wanted another drink, you just get off your seat, and go ask them.. they're more than willing....

actually, you stick to flying Virgin.. you obviously think that food and drink are the only reasons why to fly....

BA is the superior product - it's brand new and extremely well put together. Conversely VAs product is showing serious signs of age and there are frequent reports of their equipment being faulty.

VA have a slightly superior lounge at T3, however the BA ones (there are three) at T5 are outstanding.

Agreed. The reports of UC on Flyertalk are enough to have swayed me towards CW.

I would have asked them if there were in fact any flight attendants knocking around, but as it was a overnight flight 75% of them were asleep.

I will stick to Virgin thank you, who in my opinion are by far superior.

You stick to AA if you enjoy having no entertainment to choose from whatsoever and surly, unhelpful attendants.

London to Miami is a daytime flight, not an overnight one. You can't fly overnight to the US due to the time difference.

I don't know of any carriers who do a 3 meal service on an east coast USA flight - not even in J or F. Virgin certainly don't in Y - they do a single meal service after take off, and a snack before landing. BA do exactly the same in Y, and also in J, with the caveat that J pax can snack anytime they like at the Club kitchen. F can eat whatever they want when they want (and Virgin don't have an F cabin).

I'm struggling to understand how you received a 3 meal plus 2 snack service on an east coast flight.........

  • Wow this thread is insane, I know what I ate flying from Heathrow to NY with Virgin and I know what I ate from Heathrow to Miami with AA, and I am prettty sure it was night time at some point while we were in air, in fact I know it was as the attendants were def asleep.

And I have no idea what all the J, F, Y's etc mean, total nonsense to me.

Oh to be a frequent flyer like some of you

You are mistaken - there are no overnight flights from London to east coast USA - it's a geographic impossibility. If you left London at 10pm you'd arrive in north east USA at 12 midnight, or south east at 1am or 2am.

Just because the FAs were asleep doesn't mean it was an overnight flight. Due to hardware movements they may have been on a flight from the far east earlier that day meaning it was 'overnight' for them, but not for you.

However, I have never, ever seen an FA asleep infront of passengers, it would be incredibly unprofessional. Most aircraft have crew rest quarters which they use on certain long haul routes.

The letters refer to the class of travel - basically I was pointing out that even in premium cabins no carriers offer a 3 meal, 2 snack service on an east coast USA flight.

I just think you are mistaken - it's nothing major, but worth pointing out to avoid misleading other posters on this board. For transparency I flight almost exclusively on BA, but have used other carriers on many occasions.

  • Thanks for clarifying this malkie, i am going to book with AA in the next day or 2 to New York and was trying to search for meals and drinks if they are included etc. so you pretty much answered my question, and 2 meals is plenty for me, in fact just the one in 8 hours would be enough.
  • I want to book flights from Manchester or London to Orlando in March 10. cheapest I can currently find is £429 from Manchester. Will Virgin or BA have another sale before March and is it worth hanging on. Many thanks

There is usually a sale after Christmas, but whether the flights will be cheaper or not is anyones guess. I am booking for New York (and maybe Chicago!) next April now, I don't think the prices will get any lower ... but I could be wrong!

Our dates aren't fixed as such but it's turning into a biggish trip with the scottish half of the family joining us and we've got to decide on a date so people can get the time of work, start looking for flights and we can sort out some accommodation, 11th March is the favourite date to go. Any later we go into April and Easter, any earlier I am not confident of the weather.
