Who is best to fly with VA or BA?
    Prices are the same

Also who has the better premium upgrade?

    Im flying to vegas
Hard to tell what BA's economy product will be like to Vegas as it doesn't start flights there till October, but unless you are upstairs in prem. economy with VS then personally I would steer clear of them. I have traveled for years to Vegas with VS and will no longer do so. I use Delta mostly now, but willing to go with anyone other than Virgin. We are using BA Clubworld in May to Vegas, and if you buy miles using the executive club, you can get a one way upgrade for £240. now we are talking a HUGE leap from world traveler+, so it one of the best deals for an upgrade any airline offers.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • Thanks for posting the link. :T I've managed to get a very nice deal with BA to Newark, flying PE next April.

We were going anyway and have been able to go PE for not much more than economy. I know the changes from economy aren't drastic but there's a little more leg room - which, with a 6' 4" tall husband, is welcome so we don't have to stress about getting exit seats.
  • I;m a BA man.. Fly BA twice a year, went with Virgin once to St Lucia.. Had a gatwick plane on way out (awefully bad!) and a Heathrow one (to gatwick!) on teh way back.. Supposedly one o ftheir "done up" ones they boasted... I would never fly with them again.

talking Economy only.. never bother upgrading.
  • Going to Boston next week and AA are substantially cheaper than either BA or VA.
I normally travel BA but for this trip the difference was just too great (187 sterling) to ignore.
  • I don't know how to go about this so I'm hoping someone can help...

My ambition is to go to times square for a special birthday on New Years Eve, however when I check out the flights for just after Christmas and say a few days into the new year the prices are horrendous, it would be for 2 adults and a 15 year old so 3 adults really.

Who is best to fly with and when should I book, it's not for this year but I just wanted to do some groundwork and see how much I need to save up!

I have never been to the USA before either so it would all be very new to me...

Did you include a Saturday night stay - economy on BA drops by nearly £600 per person with a Saturday stay? (You'd need to stay until the 3rd of Jan if you weren't able to travel Boxing Day).

Also put NYC on the BA site as the destination to check both JFK and Newark airports for fares.

Try with just one passenger initially, and you'll see how many seats are left in the lower fare buckets that are running out - this may be why it is pricing high - sometimes it could be worth splitting the bookings - if you don't have status you'll not gain anything on seating allocation having a split booking as you don't have a child in the booking. Just check-in at T-24 (you might want to find a way to do it for the return to - internet cafe or someone back home - just make sure they don't print your boarding cards!).

Just spotted this - book as early as possible - scheduled airlines release inventory 11 months (approxiamately) ahead. Low Cost have their own process that releases whole seasons on certain dates - if you can, book this in the early February before you go - prices with airlines like BA & Virgin will then be fixed - if they increase surcharges they don't pass it on for bookings already made.

    American Airlines sale has started.
Once was enough with AA... I now tick them off the kayak list as I never want to use them again.. even if it costs me extra (which is generally only about £20 .. esp considering BA and Virgin offer free booze and they don't).

I bagged a return flight to Philadelphia with BA for £340 end of October.. it was around £100 more a month ago (Virgin doesn't fly Philly).
there's slightly cheaper options, but none direct (and I needed to be there before a certain time)
  • Last Thursday we got wind of some sales that were imminent so I swiftly moved into BA and Virgin to compare and contrast.

I don't know why, but I was able to purchase 4 return tickets (14/11 - 22/11) for £420 each. That knocks almost £140 off of both the current, and existing prices.

These always fluctuate, its best to check everyday.
  • As BA have only recently started flying this route, they will be keen to fill their planes. I think they will have more cheap seats available than Virgin. I prefer them in any case.
