Recommend me a carpet cleaner please!

I have always hired a Rug Doctor machine once a year or so to give our carpets a good clean. We do not walk in the house with outdoor shoes on and the dog always gets her paws wiped with a damp towel and then dried off before she comes in the house. The carpets have been getting grubby looking and rather than fork out £30 every couple of months, I'd like to buy a carpet cleaner.
I currently have a very efficient Dyson for vacuuming so wet/dry cleaner is not essential.
I had a look in the shops today and there didn't seem to be alot of choice - there was an orange wet/dry VAX for about £200, a Miele (at least I think it was, can't remember!) with a 2 litre tank for £100 and a larger one with 5 litre tank for £200. The smaller one would be easier to store, but I'm concerned that I'll get fed up quickly with a 2 litre tank - constantly having to empty it etc.
Does anyone have any personal experience with these? Or can you guys recommended something? Thanks!

Evening,
We bought a Vax Deluxe(the one that retails everywhere else for £200 onwards) from ebay...from graded electricals and we paid £125 i think including P&P. It is superb...we have a cat and a rabbit and cream carpets, and it works a treat, the solution with it smells great.
Really easy to use, empty and is very economical with the solution.
Hope this helps, if you need any other info feel free to pm me.

My mil highly recommends Bex Bissell carpet cleaners, They are the original carpet cleaning company, been around for about 30 years or so!
As far as i know there are 2 different types available in Currys cost approx £140 ish and £199.
Both models come with on board tools, very easy to use, mil wouldnt be with hers and with 3 large, long coated german shephards she gets plenty of use from hers
Or you can try Bex Bissell themselves for a factory reconditioned one.
oh yes, she didnt like the vax at all, sold after using 3 times!
