I bought a Hoover carpet cleaner from e-bay for £45, new but slightly marked.I was very surprised at how good it was and it leaves the carpet only slightly damp.It can also be used as a normal vacuum cleaner.0

If its just a one off stain, you can hire the Rugdoctor for around £15 per day. Its avaliable from Homebase and some other places.0

what about soda water! kim & aggie swear by it for red wine and coffee spills!
absorb the moisture by covering with a white towel(dye on coloured one may transfer) and treading on it!! good luck!0
