The whole scenario sounds well dodgy. You looked to your right and assessed you could move safely on to the roundabout. YOU were wrong...140ft on Google means zilch. In my opinion you pulled out into traffic when it was not safe to do so and caused the accident

Well there were no skid marks, the car didnt seem so slow down or change direction in order to navigate around the roundabout. As for the distances they are just what google earth has said, need to actually go down to the scene and see it all for myself.

Have a good look this time, you obviously didn't the last time you were there.:D

I am not surprised at the posts replyiing to the original topic being extremely wrong.

On a roundabout , which includes mini roundabouts , you give way to traffic ON THE RIGHT ,that is correct , but that MEANS those on the roundabout not from an entrance/road coming on to it.

A traffic cop would easilly be able to work out speed and distance of both travelled before impact , in any accident like this one should have called them , but unfortunatley unless there was a serious injury the top level are never involved and are usually elsewhere.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

While this is what the Highway Code states, surely on a mini roundabout specifically it's a patently ridiculous rule.

As I said earlier in the thread, that means that if someone coming along from the right is 6 inches short of the give-way line, I can pull out. Even though, in the case of a mini roundabout, it would be physically impossible for them to stop in time as they'd be about 10 feet from me.

No. This isn't what the highway code says. It covers this situation. The actual wording is:
When reaching the roundabout you should give priority to traffic approaching from your right, unless directed otherwise by signs, road markings or traffic lights

Not suprised at the reaction of the police. A copper mate of mine says they have more issues with mini roundabouts than any other road feature. They find them almost immpossible to sort out so in general keep out and leave it to the insurers.

For what it's worth, I see people driving like idiots at mini r's, "I'm going straight on so it's my right of way come what may", seems to be the attitude. They will cut the r regardless if it's possible to drive around it, which is actually what is designed to slow you down.

Problem is you have to expect it and drive defensively in response. You may not feel it was your fault, but unfortunately I think the insurers will decide differently.

It bring to mind what I consider to be one of the real issue with so called safe drivers. That being; "I have the right of way so I shall proceed", even if something is bearing down on them at *!mph.

A crash is a crash, no one wants one;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

It sounds like the other driver was being a bit of a !!!!!!.
However: "As i pulled out onto the roundabout i realised the car was approaching alot faster than i had anticipated "

You should be judging their approach speed, not just assuming that they were travelling slowly. I'd expect 50-50 at best and it's probably not worth arguing over it.

The lesson to learn is that, despite what people should do on a roundabout, some will treat mini roundabouts on straight roads as things they can simply drive over. Plus, some people do not concentrate properly, so you have to make a judgement and avoid.
