I love Nars for blushers - check out the powder blushers and also the multiple sticks! And MAC for eyeshadow - great colours and long lasting. MAC also do some amazing eyeliners in their Powerpoint range which are incredibly long lasting.

All make up counters seem happy to hand out foundation samples so I'd hit one of the large dept stores and get loads of samples to try before you buy.

I am asking you money savers out there to recommend me some foundation, powder, blusher and concealor that can take my make-up bag out of its perpetual adolesence.

foundation - the BEST is perscriptives (about £25), for work I wear No.7 intelligent colour (about £11).

powder - the BEST is Laura Mercier (about £30), for work can I recommend Elemental Beauty, Google it (about £12).

blusher - the BEST blushers are Laura Geller (try ebay or QVC) they are lovely:D, I'm trying to buy them all bit by bit:o

concealor - Elemental Beauty undereye brightner & healing concealer (about £5 each).

I'm not sure how cost effective my current stuff is because I do have to replace it quite often and I have to touch up my make-up every afternoon as it wears off throughout the day, so I'm using twice as much as I really would like to!

I know what you mean about upgrading slowly but I am a very all or nothing type person (usually all rather than nothing as well :o)! I think I will pop along to a counter and ask for some advice about my foundation and take it from there.

    You need a primer;)
Gosh (Superdrug £13) is pretty good.
I'm going to try the Body Shop one next time, I've heard good things about it.
Didn't rate either of the Benefit ones the Dr Feelgood or the one in the tall pinkish tube thing.
  • Here's what I use now and what I like:

Foundation - Estee Lauder Double Wear Light. Yes it's pricey but a little goes a long way and once it's on that's it for the day. If you don't like heavy foundation but need more coverage than a tinted moisturiser I'd go for this.

Concealer - Another vote for Rimmel Hide The Blemish here - yes it's cheap but my God it's good! (I am desperate for Touche Eclat though...)

Blusher - Love BeneFit Dandelion and Posietint, however am currently using a Bourjois one which is rather nice (I think it's Rose Frisson but am not entirely sure, will check when I get home).

Mascara - Maybelline Great Lash is fantastic. I've also heard good things about Max Factor Masterpiece and Rimmel Sexy Curves.

Lipstick - Don't really wear it but I do love my BeneFit one in Nice Knickers (raspberry red)

Lip gloss/balm - Love love love Lancome Juicy Tubes, I have a special edition one in Tonic (reddy pink with glitter). Otherwise Body Shop Born Lippy in Pink Guava.

Eyeshadow - Hard to say as I don't really use it. I do like Urban Decay (particularly Midnight Cowboy) and B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful though.

Yeah I do need a primer! I have never used primer before- kind of makes me sound like a wall about to be slapped with fancy paper!!!

I think I will get the Gosh one that you recommend!

My mother is coming to visit me in a few weeks, so I am going to drag her around all of the department stores to get some free samples of as many foundations as is humanly possible to carry! And I think I will try the Clinique Superbalanced as so many of you seem to like it so much!

Thank you all again for your recommendations.

Brilliant plan. Don't be afraid to tell them you're moving into ''grown up'' brands for the first time: they should try to win your loyalty with samples and some advice.:D

Trust me, Perscriptives are the king of foundations;)

Superdrug often has 3 for 2 on Gosh.

I'm going to def try the Body Shop one, next, so I will let you all know about that one.

    .

I went off prescriptives. :o At the moment I'm using Laura Mercier, having recently finished some Chanticaille. I liked both more than prescriptives.

I'm beginning to realise there is no one wonder foundation for all people. :( In fact: I still don't think I've found mine! The Laura Mercier is the best-for me- so far though!

Prescriptives do do nice foundations Id forgotten all about them.

Just remembered another absolute favourite foundation is Armani, both Luminous silk and Hydra Glow formulas. They make my skin look airbrushed :D

    Makeup brushes!
I love bodyshop and Mac brushes but can't fault No7 either. The right tools offer great results imo. They are a good investment if looked after properly.
I really like bodyshop makeup &some of it is currently on sale-I'm very impressed with the shimmer cubes and I love all of the roseflower collection , blushers and also the eyedefiners.
On my quest to find the perfect foundation I have tried many and have finally found the one-Maxfactor colour adapt foundation in natural.
I'm also a big fan of Mac for eyeshadows &blushers, benefit for blushers and lovely pallettes which have a bit of everything to try.Lancome for juicy tubes lipgloss.
From the highstreet Loreal for blush&eyshadow & now for it's studio secrets primer, revlon for it's matte lipstick range and bourjois for mostly everything-lipsticks smell nice, blushers have a great shade choice and the mascaras are brilliant.No7 for blusher and lipstick.
For budget brands-collection2000 &rimmel.I only use collection 2000 eyeliner.
