    Hey,

I have a fantastic postie, and great relationships with most couriers as I get so much stuff from the internet. He always leaves a note for me to pick it up when it's RD.

One question you obviously have the tracking number on your parcel, go onto the royalmail website with the tacking number and see what it says. If it says delivered th postie faked a signature there which is wrong and report.

The posties dont have to leave calling cards if they tried to deliver (which drives me nuts as I always get customers asking where their items are as I have to say go to the depot and they wont believe me because the postie didn't leave the card but yes it's at the depot for them).

I had the joy of working for RM one summer and all I'll say is if I had a choice I'd send them some other way.

    Hi Funkybase,
i'm not sure where you got your info from but i can assure you that RM do have to leave calling cards if no one is home. If your postie isnt then he's not doing his job properly.

Hi, I got my information from working for RM. I just had a quick look at RM website to see if it says anything about leaving a note (just in case the rules changed I didn't know) and it doesn't say that.

The postie has to get a signature from whoever takes the package (which doesn't have to be the person named on the package) but RM state if a signature cannot be obtained the item will be returned to the sender after 7 days free of charge.

I'm talking about recorded delivery, nothing else.

I think posties should leave a note. If a note was suppposed to be obtained (the same way a signature has to be) RM would be advertising that instead of saying "If there's nobody available to sign for the item, we return your mail free, with a note saying why we can't deliver it." That note they are talking about is to the sender and telling them normally that the person did not come to pick it up.

Are you a postie by any chance? Just wanting to know why you think a postie needs to leave a note. I think general rule of thumb is you should leave a note(or more advertised to leave a note), but nowhere do RM say they guarantee leaving a note which is the loophole and means it doesn't have to be left if anyone asks.

    I hope this helps!

I think thats mainly the point here. a lot (not all...... but a lot.....just read these forums and those on ebay to see how many) of posties are not doing their jobs properly

I agree posties should leavie calling cards and from I know many do but it's something that royal mail does not guarantee.

RM guarantees things like first class will be delivered in X amount of days, special delivery before 9am will be delivered before 9 am etc and if these things aren't met you can claim and get compensation. So while it doesn't always happen you can claim compensation if it doesn't work out the way they said it would.

With the calling card, I cannot see that and from what I know talking to some posties and working in RM it's something that should be done but RM isn't going to compensate you if you don't get your calling card. Though if someone can tell me for sure that they do guarantee calling cards the way the do delivering the mail then happy days, I'll start claiming for my customers that haven't received them and I'll accept I've been wrong all this time and missed out on a bit of compensation.

As royal mail does advertise they ALWAYS get a signature or is is returned to the sender, that is different. If I know a postie is not getting signatures I would report him and expect RM to do something about. I've never had a customer complain about not getting a signature to me (calling cards yes) nor have I had the problem but I always get calling cards and have a great postie. Signatures have to be obtained and calling cards is more of yeah we should always leave them but it's not always done, just a bit more laid back about it. Not right, just that's the attitude in my opinion from what I've seen and that's why I think Royal Mail doesn't guarantee it.

Postie who doesn't get a signature or doesn't deliver the mail is not doing his job, a postie who doesn't always leave a calling card is not good at his job. Again it's my opinion from what I've seen, where I've worked and what I know.

I'd rather a postie get a signature than leave a card (if I had to let one of the services go) as I can't remember the last time I got a delivery that had to be signed for that I did not know was coming, so if it didn't turn up, I contact the company, get tracking information and track it down myself (all things I can do) whereas I cannot go and sort my own mail and deliver it or get signatures for items I send. Yet I've had a few parcels go AWOL and the tracking information/signature has been great at sorting out any problems compared with the times I didn't pay to get a signature.

Good luck with all your post!

dounome - Yes you were harsh on what I said, I didnt actually mean it. Do you really think i was influencing people to go and do what I actually said, its something they deserve but i would advise anyone to do.

Like the poster after you said, yes all my postMEN are bloody w****rs, they are soo rude, they knock on your door and by the time you open and they are off. Once i called one back and he said 'I aint got all day hurry up next time', felt like giving him a good kick in :p JOKE AGAIN, dnt take it personally.

Also dounome i never said ALL postmen were paid and certainly never said it was you so keep ur hair on.

Please don't tarnish RM too much. Yes i work for them & alot of us do work so hard to get post out on time/ arrive safely etc.. There are workers there (me included) who understand the service you should be getting, we are a customer too. Posties are out there in all weather's & there are some lovely friendly & helpful ones. Granted there has been some issues in the media, we try our best.

DH used to be a postie (for 5.5 years) and he said to avoid using recorded delivery always. Special delivery is the better way.

My postie is frustrating! he leaves parcels he can't fit through my door in my neighbours alcove!! (what if we don't get on?!?!) when he does knock at the door he has a 'fag hanging out of his mouth!! (YUKKY!!) and if he has something recorded he puts a slip through the door! (which he already written out at home!) to say pick your parcel up - sorry you were out!! GRRR

I've heard that Royal Mail often don't get signatures for post sent to government buildings, they just get handed over. If you could find a round that never gets signatures you could probably send lots of things recorded delivery then claim compensation for non-delivery.
