Royal Mail Recorded Delivery

Just got a parcel that I ordered off ebay this morning that had been sent by recorded delivery. I was really annoyed as the postman just handed it to me and walked away without asking for my signature!

I know that this has been discussed on the forum before (but I can't find it). Has anyone ever reported this to RM? And how did you go about it? Plus do RM even care?

Thanks

They do that sometimes, same with other couriers such as city link. I would do this to get back at them:

Because you have not signed anything, records will show that you havnt got the item/s, you can then complain and say you havnt received anything. Probably, you get something from them, i would do that anyway, they deserve what they get. I dont really like RM.

However, in it's basest form that is fraud, and as such I would advise against doing this.
The correct channel is to contact royal mail and put in a formal complaint against your postman advising that he is perpetuating fraudulent activity in not fulfilling his obligation to collect your signature when you are given the package.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

I get loads of CDs through the post and some are recorded delivery. My postman actually said to me, "you don't mind if I just put these through your letterbox do you, so that if you are out it saves you a trip to the sorting office each time", plus he doesn't then have to write out a card etc so I agreed.

Good reply smartie 1976 i work for royal mail and would also advise against saying you did not receive something you obviously did, which with a little visit from the police or royal mail investigators would prove you did, as for you lazymoezy i dont know what your gripe is but we are not all as bad as you make out, i just hope that you are whiter than white in all your dealings and if not i hope you get all thats coming to you for your negative reply to a real problem.

How to Win friends and influence people!

I see what your saying about tarring all posties with the same brush...but don't you think that is just a little,er... harsh?????

Maybe it's because he lives in an area like me where all the postmen seem to do is to deliver the mail to the wrong addresses and leave soddin little red elastic bands all over the pavements and the front lawn, (which I have started flicking at them out of the window after my repeated requests to pick them up!) and some of them can't even speak OR READ English!!! Oh yes, and at christmas, they STOLE a van from Amazon! Hurrah for postmen!

I understand that it is frustrating being good at your job and having to suffer for other people's incompetance, but "I hope you get all that's coming to you"? That's a bit psychotic to be frank, and it's not going to make anyone rush to the defence of Royal Mail.

    Hi Impy 78
didnt mean to sound so harsh/psychotic but yes i am fed up being tarnished as the bad ones of the delivery services, i can tell you from experience that many customers are only too glad to not have to go to the office for something that would fit through the door, i personally wouldnt just deliver a package that required a signature but i have had customers saying i should have just signed it for them as "Youve known me for years". saying that doesnt excuse not even attempting a signature by the postie, you can in some cases get written acceptance from the customer for the postie to sign for you but that is at the posties discretion and probably only for trusted customers.
By the way sorry to lazymoezy as well, no excuse for my wee outburst.

It really really annoys me when I pay for things on eBay and have paid for recorded delivery and the parcel just gets left outside where anyone could steal it. It's extremely frustrating! They offer the service but can't seem to fulfil it.

I wonder do they just sign it themselves hoping no-one notices?
