We used to live in Edinburgh and had tourists year round, but Festival time and the New Year were especially bad. We avoided the City like the plague, although we both worked in the City we tried not to go near the centre it in August and the last week in December. If we had to go in we used the train and walked, it really was the only way to get round.
Tourists brought a lot of money and employment into the City....but there were times when they were a blamed nusience????spelling especially when you rounded a corner in the car and found the middle of the road blocked by Japanese tourists taking photographs of something........it amazes me that more of them did not get knocked down...
I understand how people feel when it rains and there is very little to do in a holiday resort..........I have been there myself. Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -

Afternoon all,
Windy but sunny here to-day, think we are to have rain to-night, have chanced some washing out but will keep an eye on it.
Got my hair cut this morning, new hairdresser the last time I had it done gave me a cut that I really liked, so went back there and she has worked the miracle again, so am happy even if it did mean parting with €45.
Has been an expensive day as DS2 is 35 today so I got him a multi shopping centre voucher, he has a lot more disposable money than I have so has no needs....trouble is DS3 will be 31 on 15th so that will be another expensive weekend as my godmother and last surviving aunt will be 100....can't buy her anything but feel the need to bring a couple of bottles to the party!
Not sure what's for dinner, not in humour to cook anything but may change my mind later....
Hugs to all who are sick with SF or anything else, get well soon.
Lovely to see your post csarina, hope that you and OH are well.....I missed you.

thanks lamewolf, he's had 2 heart attacks and a bypass and he's only 47 so I do worry whenever he's poorly.Taplady, best wishes for your DH, hope he's feeling better. I hadn't realised he had heart probs.
halight - glad the jabs went well for the girls.
I need to pop out and buy a new phone today as ours has packed up - not a great deal of choice in our small town but we have to have one.
At least its lovely and sunny now:jDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Thankyou for your warm welcome. I do understand the frustrations re tourists as I worked as a community midwife just outside Bournemouth/ Poole for a few years...so often found myself meeding to get somewhere pretty quickly without the luxury of Blues/Twos. Perhaps I just need the sight and smell of the sea.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Hello all - sorry I've been missing from here for a while - been up to my eyes in things just now. My dissertation is due in at the end of August, so it's eyes down on the prize just now.
Hope everyone is well and fingers crossed I'll post more regularly at the end of the month.....
Take care0 -
Hello folks and (hugs) to poorlies and unhappy.
DH back at work now after swine flu and feeling v washed out. I thought I was on the mend yesterday and actually cleaned 5 windows but am tired out today. Takes a lot out of you.
We live on Norfolk Broads and feel very lucky to be able to walk our dogs by the river whenever and always wave to the holiday makers. It is difficult when the town is packed with big queues for parking but I try to remember it's their hols. We're moving to Edinburgh and I know how packed it gets at the festival. I'm not one for crowds really, so just try to plan around events. I'm from NE Scotland and remember the days of the 'Glasgow Fair' and Dundee Trades fortnight when it seemed everyone would come to our town for their hols. I felt quite proud though.
Have sausages defrosting for tea. This morning it was going to be nothing so things are looking up. Have had lemonade, rich teas and 2 cups of tea .
Ah...thanks to the poster with the OH with twitchy legs with this SW - my Dh has that and it's been driving me mad when I try to sleep. I've had it a bit too but am not as twitchy as him:p0 -
Are you perhaps trying to do too much, too soon? Take it easy for the rest of the day, and slow down a bit tomorrow.:oI thought I was on the mend yesterday and actually cleaned 5 windows but am tired out today. Takes a lot out of you.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
