How is this even a dilemma? Obviously she splits the money.0

The simple answer is yes she should spilt the cash. Good Friends are gold & not to spilt the refund would be out of order. Friendship is more important than money. For those people who said 'No' money is obviously more important to them but its not the be all and end all of life.0

Initially I thought "no contest I would split the money" The more I read the other point of view I thought "Hmmm maybe I wouldn't" but after careful consideration I would definately split it. I would feel incredibly mean if I didn't and wouldn't be able to look my friend in the eye afterwards.0

You're mates. Share the pain and split the cash. End of.0

Of course they should split the returned cash, if they wish to carry on being friends. In future maybe Elena should book her own fare separately. Is this Section 75 'not family' thing true? Something to watch out for if it is.

The clue to the answer is in the question - they are best buddies. This isn't just someone Natasha is doing a favour for: ie someone who is lousy with money so they don't spend it.
Splitting it or spending it together elsewhere would be the only options for me.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
I thought it said they were 'best buds' - of course she should Elena half the refund!
I can't see them staying best buds if she doesn't! That would be mean.0 -

Split the money.
Main reason is obvious but even despite that:
- sure Tasha's card got the protection for her but I'd bet that was a fluke either she didn't know about any protection or thought they were both being covered.
- Elena paid Tasha for the flight so Tasha has to buy Elena a flight! Contract is frustrated so losses lie where they fall.
- Elena probably would have needed to use a credit card to pay so might have obtained one or used her mother's or whatever if Tasha hadn't been using hers - I'd guess they both put it onto Tasha's card for convenience.
If Elena had asked Tasha if they could put the whole booking on her card and Tasha has said that Elena wouldn't be covered, then fair play for Tasha to keep it like she said she would, but otherwise split the refund.0
