Buyer threatening . . .

I've just received a ebay message from a buyer who purchased a faulty watch from me.

All i stated in the description was :

Mens armani watch. The watch needs either the strap fixing or replacing. Smart modern face quartz movement.

The message from him was:

Hi, The watch arrived today. You did not state that the watch did not work and required a new battery(I assume). The description only stated that the strap was faulty. I will leave it 48 hours and then raise as a dispute with ebay/paypal. Please note I will feedback in 48 hours regardless of outcome from the resolution process. Regards

I have replied :
Hi,
I stated the watch was faulty, i didnt mention nothing regarding the working condition. If your not happy send it back with tracking and i'll refund minus postage costs. I dont appreciate threats - you can check my feedback i dont have any problems with buyers!

Does this seem a fair response. I got a feeling hes guna leave bad feedback regardless is there anything i can do. What will paypal or ebay do when he opens the dispute?? I dont want him to keep the watch and also get a refund

Cheers for any response

You do need to describe your listing accurately. If I had read your listing I would have assumed the fault was with the strap & not the fact it didnt work. I should think Paypal & ebay will see it like that aswell.
I would have worded my e-mail differently as if this is raised with Paypal they will get a full refund of the initial purchase price & p&p. They do not get a refund on the return postage (which they need to send tracked).
I think your going to be heading for a negative on this one, it may be worth sending a more positive email advising you will refund once the watch is received.
You can always re-list the watch, but to save the same thing happening again make sure you advise that it isnt working.

    sorry you are wrong
you sold a watch, the whole point is it tells the time regardless of straps
you stated it needed a strap, not that it was faulty

given your reply i would file a PP dispute and neg you
  • I know i made the mistake with not much detail in the listing. I have had a response saying he will send it back and he didnt mean to be threatening.

I replied stating it wasnt a problem, and once recieved i will issue a refund minus postage costs via paypal and there will be no need to open a dispute. (was trying to be as polite as possible). Heres hoping once the refund happens i will not get a neg

    fingers crossed

you'd neg a seller for admitting they are wrong and will issue a refund once item returned. No wonder Ebay is getting ruined - check my other feedback this was just a lapse with the description as usually they are quite detailed.
  • To me your description is misleading, whether intentionally or not. You really should have said that the watch itself didn't work, not only that the strap needed fixed or replaced. Honest descriptions are essential on eBay- you can't just miss bits out and hope for the best.

I agree with custardy. If I received that kind of reply from a seller I'd file a PP dispute and left a neg.
  • Id be annoyed at losing postage costs for a poorly worded listing so I think you should do a full refund.

Agree with all the above - unfortunately its your error and quite a big error.

If as a seller I made that mistake i would return P&P as well (to avoid negative I would even go as far as pay their postage for returning!)

lol you're talking to somebody who has bought and sold(at one time full time) for many years
you didnt admit you were wrong.
you tried to infer it was the buyers fault
its sellers like you ruining ebay.right now im dealing with a seller who has sold me a faulty motherboard
we have passed many messages trying to find a solution.
at no point did the seller try and blame me,at no point did i say or think the seller sent a duff board on purpose.
i will be returning it for a refund, the seller will be getting glowing feedback & DSR's
    see the difference?

Where does that admit you were wrong? I see no threat implied or otherwise in the message received from your buyer. Looks to me like they were simply informing you of their intended course of action. No reason to go off at them.

Also, it doesn't matter what your other descriptions are like- we're not talking about them are we?!
  • Your desciption is misleading and I too would not be happy and the tone of your reply would result in me opening a PP dispute, marking you as 1* and leaving a neg'.

    Sorry, but you'd deserve it.
