OMG no company I have ever worked for has charged for measuring and I worked for a shed and a couple of independents...

    Hi Mr M

We have on our website that we charge £100 planning fee. We use it as a discreationary fee. The way I see it - it takes a proper days work to go out measure, plan, prepare quote and present it all, so I think there is value to that service. We obviously refund this against the order as John Lewis do with their £50 planning fee.

Where did you sign (at home or in the shop)?

If at home, did you pay on a credit agreement or credit card and, if so, were you told of the cooling off period?

Quoting is part of the normal suppliers commercial risk.

I know some companies do it, just saying none I have worked for do and at £250 it is a plain rip off!!!
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

    Hi

I will quote free of charge if the customer brings in their own plans but if they want a design service then it is a service that we reserve the option to charge for.

Yeah, £250 is way over the top especially when you think it isn't really a design service, its just the shed's way to get the customer to commit to a purchase before they do anything else.
