Warm Front Grant saved me a fortune!

I'm not sure if the engineers that did my system could have been regular subcontract workers for kershaws because although kershaws are in chambridge which is a long way from me prob 2 hours or so this engineer lives about 30 mins from my house which is why he had to fit my system they seem to have only 1 engineer and his mate to do a very big area.
The problemed bedroom radiator makes a loud noise when first starting up and intermitently loud noises as though you can hear water dropping through it emptying. I know someone will come to see to it at some stage but I would rather wait for other engineers. I would have thought a big firm like that wouldnt have had a problem sending a different one outThanx

Hi,
I've just noticed this thread I haven't read all of the post but would like to know if your eligable even if you rent, my parnter and I have a house which just has economy 7 radiators in two rooms, no heating in our 3 years old room and a heater in our room, the back half off the house has double glazing but the front doesn't. If we approached our landlord would he be able to get anything done with the Warm Front Grant and how would the eligability work off him or us?

I have just found this thread and have skim read it. I have applied to warm front and someone is to contact me within 3 weeks to arrange to come round. My boiler was replaced in 2001, so is pretty up to date, however, some of my radiators have stopped working and apparantly they have the original valves (about 25 years old), will they give me a grant for this do you think?0

I've just found this website and your messages.
I am having smilar problems with kershaws. My heating system broke down 2 weeks after installation. I didn't realise there would be so many problems with getting it fixed. The woman at kershaw's was so rude and aggressive
to me, reducing me to tears. They won't give me a date to fix it I've got to wait until someone is in the area and hope I'll be at home, otherwise I have to wait until they are in the area again, but they won't tell me when they will be in the area. I'm disabled have trouble keeping warm anyway and have no other form of heating. Warm Front, although they seem kind, can't do anything to help me. What a crazy system.
The woman at Kershaw's made me feel it was my fault, I felt I was going mad I was so distressed, now I've read about similar problems I know it's not me, so that helps me a bit.
How long do they expect you to be cold, I thought it was Warm Front not Cold Front.0 -
I'll tell you something what a relief it is to know I'm not the only one experiencing this with them, although I'm sorry that you are having problems. I know exactly what you mean about the girl that answers the phone at Kershaws. The tone in her voice is nasty, sharp and dismissive of whatever you say. She talks over me like she really isn't going to listen to anything I have to say she reminds me of the kind of girl thats bullies at school. I havent been rude to her at all and in fact she was like it on the very first call I ever made to them
I have mentioned her previously on this thread but havent said too much because I begun to wonder if people here would think I was a complete winer about everything.
I would ask it to be escalated to some manager at warmfront what area are you in are you in the midlands?Thanx

I am so relieved to see your message again. I've spoken to this woman 3 times and each time she was nasty. Like you she talks over me has a very aggressive attitude right from the start. I knew she wasn't listening to me then she said I can't talk to you, your talking over me, I was so shocked. I began to think it was me, but I have carers here and they have heard every word she said. She said someone would call out yesterday, no one came I rang and she told me that she never said someone would come out, I'd got it wrong and I was confused, I was distraught and she told me to shut up while she was talking.
I have written to Warm Front to complain with a detailed diary of events. This morning I emailed Defra with a complaint and I have emailed BBC Watchdog, I know Watchdog have investigated Warm Front before. If everyone sent in letters of complaint then surely they would act.
It doesn't help us in the short term because we still have problems. At least I feel I am not alone now.0 -

I have finally had some more news regarding my grant. The plumber calling in in september to survey the house and to photocopy my proof of benefit. A couple of days later the grant people phoned to let me know I was elegeble and that it had to go through approval. The other day I got a phone call from the plumber to check the gas supply had gone in. I told him I had heard nothing. The short of it is that it has gone through approval. The quote for the gas to the house has been lost and now it has been found it is out of date. When national grid will let me have a new quote (cannot get one until the old one is off the system) I shold be getting it done.
I first enquired about the grant in December 2005. It has taken its time but it looks as though it IS going to happen.
I was pleased to hear that we are to get a full grant to cover the full cost.
Anyone reading this thread, apply! You have nothing to loose! The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0 -
Lady K, I am in NG8 so not far from you.0

Oh we may not have had the same engineers though with that. How were they when they installed it and how did they leave things afterwards when they left?Thanx
