keeping in touch with nephews and nieces when the parents dont speak

and now i have a new problem....

my mother has now taken to shouting at my 9 year old and telling her off for choosing not to speak to her aunt (who we have fallen out with... its a two way thing though, neither of us have any wish to make up)
Up until she met her new bloke (who she met, married and moved abroad with within a few months) we were close, she only lived up the road, we saw her all the time etc.... but DD knows her aunt got married and that we were not even invited, she knows auntie has had almost no contact with DS (DDs beloved toddler brother) and she knows that if Auntie had given a damn about any of us it could have all been sorted out...
so she doesnt want anything more to do with her, but my mum seems to think im constantly bad mouthing my sister and poisoning the kids mind against her,
last time mum said to DD "i know your mum and aunt have fallen out but its nothing to do with you" and told her off until she felt she had to speak to her aunt on the phone.

surely this isnt right?? shes nine years old and isnt stupid, surely she can make her own mind up?
im going to have to have words with my mother... *sigh*

Update on my family :

My 2 sisters have`nt spoken for ages but today they both met at my house. I asked them both to sort things out cos life is too short etc. Anyway, they did - at last !!
It would`nt have gone on for so long if others had`nt got involved lol
