Not sure if it is of any interest to anyone, but I have just received an email from Poppicrafts to say their 20% off all stock sale ends tomorrow.
2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family.
It is also time to save - Aim £4,000 - So far this year - £230/£4,000

My MSE challenge card is on my blog I really enjoyed making this card as I found it suited my style, thank-you Rainmac :)

CT you have some fab cards on your blog, I love the ones you have made with your Craft Robo. I keep hanging my nose over the Sillouette but need to do more research.

Myz and Marg I have ordered my ribbons with free postage :)

Marg I hope you get your heating sorted quickly, I would hate you to get out of bed in the morning and have ice on the insides of your windows like we did when we were kids! I agree, things like that only go wrong in winter when we need them most. Sending you lots of ((((Hugs)))) to keep you warm xx

Rusty I'm so pleased your little girl loved nursery and did you proud, bless her xx

Rainmac Good Luck with your letter writing x

How have you all managed to get free ribbons!! you lucky things. I have registered my email now so hope I get to know when the next challenge is. I have had loads of ribbons from them and they are lovely quality. I didn't really need anymore but managed to spend £9, its too easy to spend when they accept paypal!!
  • Evening everyone - lots of (((hugs))) flying out to keep everyone warm. Brrrrr but it's cold - I want to hibernate and wake up when it's warm and light.

I'm soooo excited - I have just updated my blog with my very first card ever :j:j:j. Big thanks to Rainmac for setting the challenge.

Goes off skipping singing happily - I've made a card, I've made a card :T:T

Sorry guys, small things and small minds and all that... lol

    Keep warm everyone,
    Thriftyxxx

Hi everyone! :) I've wanted to make cards for a long time, and I finally took the plunge today as I had a spare bit of Christmas money. I have ordered loads of stuff using the first couple of threads as ideas of where to get stuff.

So far I have ordered: white cards, pastel cards, scissors, glue, foam dots, banners for the top of the cards (birthday/thank you/anniversary etc), a craft tidy tray, mixed glitters, happy birthday stamps, thank you stamp, black and red inks and then lots of bits and bobs such as mixed papers, stars and pretty things to actually stick on the card! I got some really sweet mini gardening tools for my Grandad's birthday card, and other similar things.

Storage wise I bought a plastic A4 paper storage, 12 part mini organiser for all the bits and bobs and I bought the Soap and Glory hatbox for Christmas which I think I will now use to keep everything!

I was thinking of getting some kind of guillotine or ruler thing - as I can't cut straight to save my life! Not sure which to get, as my budget is about £5 max for it.

Is there anything major I've missed? I'm totally new to this world - so if it's not on the list, I've missed it out!

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of cheapest websites to use (or any to avoid?) please?

My final question is to ask people where they make their crafts. I do not have a table/desk or room to put one. Is this going to be a major problem? I have a laptray I hoped to use - does anyone else make their cards this way?

    Hi Jazabelle,

Welcome to the thread, you will soon be addicted like the rest of us. It looks to me that you already have covered the basics. I go through quite a bit of double sided sticky tape and found the best place for me to get it is Poundland and you get four rolls in a pack. Bargain. If you have a Poundland near you, then you will find it in the DIY section and not the crafty area.

I have a basic gullotine, that I picked up in Tescos for about £6 a while ago which is OK, but I tend to use a craft knife and cutting mat to do most of my cards, and you could probably get both for about £5 on ebay. I know a few people on here have fiskar paper trimmers which can be a bit more expensive, but cut really well.

Melissa is the best person to come up with lots of cheap website. Some of the ones I use are glitterpot, poppicrafts, craftsuperstore and of course ebay.

I use the dining room table or floor to make my cards, and don't have a separate room to craft, so end up spending most of my time unpacking the stuff then packing it away again so that we can eat!

I look forward to seeing your creations.

  • Hey hope everyone's okay. Welcome all newbies it's good - it's nice to see more people taking up cardmaking.

CT19720 lucky you with your Craft Robo, i'm looking forward to seeing what you make with it.

Mary-Op I hope your OH is okay and gets sorted sooner rather than later. If he's in pain make him stop being so stubborn and go to the hospital lol (my boyfriend is exactly the same and has been hobbling round with a cracked knee for the last week).

Rusty I think you're being more than reasonable and have every right to vet where your son will be staying along with feeling sure he'll be safe.

Hugs to everyone else, i've only flicked through the last few pages quickly. My Gran is critical but the hospital are being totally useless - the doctor forgot to see her today and they didn't send her for the ultrasound she had booked so we're transfering her to a private hospital asap!

New card on my blog http://leialegweak.blogspot.com/ and off to comment on everyones cards now. Keep warm and safe over the next few days I couldn't believe the temperature this morning when I got in my car x

Ah, thanks very much for that tip! I just bought one for 85p, so that's quite a saving. Glad you think I've covered everything - was worried I'd be told about something really expensive I'd missed. ;)

Ohh, I did see something like that with a ruler - I might have another look for it and get that. Thanks for the suggestion!

So far I used glitterpot and eBayer, but also the pound/50p section at Mad About Cards and PayPer Box.

I will check the others out after I've received everything - I can't possibly be tempted anymore tonight! ;)

Hee, yes, I will be in a lot of trouble if I make a mess! I won't be able to use the floor as I have a chronic pain condition, so have to be as tidy as possible with my stuffy.

Thank you! I'm very unartistic, so I wouldn't hold your breath - but am going to give it a go! Thanks for the lovely response to my post!

Do you have a Works near you? I think they have a cutting knife and craft knife set for about £5 x

There is a Poundland and The Works in town next door to each other - so I will make a trip soon and stock up! Thank you. :)
