The Silhouette is actually the Craft Robo but rebadged by Quickutz. With Quickutz you can download images to cut on their website for a small fee and these items will only work with their machine.
The Craft Robo comes with the Craft Robo Design master software which means you can create your own designs and die cut fonts and dingbats.
The Cricut takes cartridges which of course are not available on the Robo's..but you can only cut what's on the cartidge you've got and they're pricey but licensed exclusive images such as Disney characters etc. BUT.. there is now a hack for the Cricut called SCAL (sir cuts a lot) which turns it into a robo so you CAN now make your own designs and cut them out.
There is price to factor in as well. How many embellishments and die cut papers could you buy for the price of one of these machines? Will you ever use it enough to justify the price.
I was in Shrewsbury QVC Outlet the other day and they had the Silhouette for something stupid like 146 pounds with an extra 25% off ontop of that which made it very cheap indeed!
Don't know an awful lot about these as I am a new owner but I would just like to say that you can use different softwares with the robo/silhouette/wishblade! Last week I used the software for the silhouette machine and this week I am using the software for the robo! you can download freebies from all over the place if you know where to look (I have done this without any problems) you can also buy for a small fee some of the gsd files which someone else has made.
Also your comment up above which I highlighted in bold. This isn't the case, you can download things from their website and then cut it on a Robo which obviously isn't their machine.
There are also tutorials and other things to do the more MSE things like make your own carrier sheets sticky, and make new carrier sheets instead of paying the fortunes that suppliers charge!!
All in all a good review from me, even though I am still having problems with mine!
Don't know about the cricut, but as has previously been said the silhouette is the same machine
Hope that helps Jammy :j
Edit: will be back later to catch up on the rest of the posts, just seen the time :eek:Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
I was naughty but good lol
I only ordered the Butterfly set
Im leaning towards the Robo now over the others, it just seems that you can do abit more with it. Well thats after talking to Rusty and Sylphraven who are both new users but impressed. Now if i wait for the new robo ( ecraft) to come out. Do we think the price of the Robo will go down ?furrypig says:my name is Choccy and I am addicted to nose free stamps as I want to save them all and give them noses!!!:rotfl:
About me. Im Choccy or Chocolate orange depending on where i am.Yes occasionally i am a total looon who spends too long online, but no where near as much £ as her spendy elves do ..:D0 -
Jammy and Choccy If you both do go ahead any buy a machine just remember its another big learning curve and you just have to persevere and be patient. I think you have to think long term, it really depends on how much you might spend on buying ordinary dies. The machines are much more versatile as you can resize any of them to fit personal projects. Its still very new to me but also gets the thumbs up!!0
