Need a free bibile

Interesting to hear different points of view here. I would recommend having a look at https://www.biblegateway.com - read passages in various styles and you should find out which one you would rather. NIV is the 'standard' in most churches these days, I have one of those, a Message version, and a Life Application one. All are good. Different denominations will prefer different styles (hence, I suspect the JW references above), but ultimately it's up to you to develop a relationship with Jesus in your own way - and that means getting a bible in a style that suits you!0

To be fair, I find it quite depressing that people wish to own a bible in this day and age. Years ago, when people didn't know better, fair enough, I can see why they'd believe the elaborate stories, but these days?! Crazy IMO.
HOWEVER - If following a religion helps people to become better citizens, thn so be it, each to their own etc.0 -
Yes, each to their own indeed. I just don't see the point in basing my life around a fabrication of events. If someone shows me some proof, maybe I'll change my mind, but until then, well, I can only base my beliefs on fact.
I'm not being nasty. I certainly don't think my opinion is in any way disrespectful, and I'm I don't see it any way as a joking matter. People believe what they want to believe. But look at it this way, the world would be a MUCH better place without religion, as we wouldn't have religious extremists blowing themselves up everywhere and killing innocent people, all because a book tells them too...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Sadly, mwillets, faith, which religion of any kind is based on, relies on an act of trust or reliance on God. This means that solid proof is unlikely to become available to enable you to change your mind.
ukmonkey, many people nowadays believe that there is a God and that the religious book (of whatever faith) is there to guide belief and behaviour. It is not essential to believe literally in the creation, Noah's Ark etc. (And as my dad says, it is more amazing to look at the world and believe it has developed gradually than to think it was made by a greater being in a matter of days!)
LittleVics - I almost thought you were me! Only I have a Youth Bible as well. Very 'readable' and pretty close to original versions.
(The reason the Qu'ran is learnt in Arabic is so that it does not have the 'minor changes' made that can affect meaning, as mentioned above has happened with translating the Bible. I haven't enough knowledge of other religions to make any further comparisons).0 -

Ever since mankind was created/born/evolved (delete as applicable) we have looked for meaning and order. We found it in deities and myths, and we based ourselves around it totally.
We went to war over it yes, but without religion there would be nothing to go to war over, we wouldn't advance, and the human race, if it had never looked up at the stars and gave them human attributes would still be stuck in a cave because there was no noble cause to convert all other tribes to.
Without a god figure there is no philosophy, as there is only one fixed truth.
There would be no cathedrals, no pyramids, no incan ruins, no easter island, no stonehenge...
So you may say that there should be no religion, but I say that your thinking is only a product of a evermore impatient zeitgeist, that refuses to look behind and can only peer dimly into the future.
(Oh and by the way, my religion hasn't got a book, and doesn't blow people up . There are more beliefs than the ones that revolve around the god of Abraham)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.0 -

At least the New World Translation from Jehovah's Witnesses is true to the earliest scrolls available and therefore in my eyes THE one to have, and at no cost to the receiver....unless you want to make a voluntary donation that is.
We are all Gods children and should all join as one in his name not segregate ourselves. one world under God0 -

Don't reckon you'd get a fine or a record, but think infinity in hell might be worth avoiding.0 -

There are plenty of atheist philosophers
There is also plenty of interesting discussion about the more esoteric scientific fields such as quantum physics or evolutionary psychology.
Would I trade all that discussion for one fixed truth - if it were the actual truth then I very well might
