Dear Everyone
Thank you so much for your posts. I'm nearly MF now - less than a week to go - but the joy that finally I'm going to own my house has been overshadowed by the knowledge I almost certainly won't be able to have children. And I'm failing miserably to be brave about it. The wife of one of OH's friends announced yesterday that she's going to have a third baby in August, and whilst I'm delighted for her, the reality of a future without a family is very hard to bear.
On the MFW front, I popped into the BS today to ask what happens come next Wednesday when my last DD becomes payable. Unfortunately, the manager told me she couldn't give any advice at all re mortgages, couldn't tell me about the pros & cons of leaving a notional £1 on the account and said it was too late to adjust my DD to ensure it didn't take the usual £4k payment (thereby resulting in an overpayment and possible automatic redemption of the mortgage!!!).
Just as well that I had the name of someone in the centralised 'Customer Experience' team, who, when I called them was able to give me most of the info I was after in five minutes flat. Given that BSs are mainly about mortgages, I was surprised that the branch manager's knowledge was so limited.
For the time being, I've arranged to leave my mortgage account open, with a notional £1 balance on it. However... Can anyone tell me what the pros and cons of this arrangement might be?
Thanks in anticipation,

QB - I don't want to cause upset so please read this as coming with caring thoughts...
The OP might work and you could have children. If not you could look at adoption or fostering. Can you be a fantastic aunty or adopted aunty to a friend's child? What about mentoring schemes for older young people (IYSWIM)? John Lennon is apparently attributed with the quote "life is what happens whilst we are making plans". You can't tell how it will turn out so all you can do is to do your best.
Also - it is perfectly normal to be cross or upset about it sometimes if you want children and it doesn't work out. People here and in real life will support you and understand you feeling sensitive about other people's babies.
