I know... but I shopped around really hard for this one! Partly it's because of where I live, partly it's because the house is old and the rest? I don't really know, apart from the fact that I just answered all the questions I was asked as truthfully as possible... I read other people's B&C figures and just think how???
    QB

I shopped around really hard this year, Direct Line had more than doubled our payments  to just shy of £900, eventually got B&C down to nearer the £400 mark (cashback pending to bring it potentially lower), still more than the last few years but some places wouldn't touch us as we are within 400m of water (387 according to that Google Map thingy). This year was definitely my most difficult for finding good, affordable cover, so if your place is old or near water or slightly 'out of the norm' in anyway I'm not surprised by that figure..........doesn't help when we want to clear the old mortgage asap though :wall:

Shop around for your MOT, some places will do them for as low as £19 if you book well in advance (Just MOTs do this providing it's more than 60 days in advance of your MOT date).

Are you on the best possible PAYG for your circumstances? Lots of good cashback offers at the mo on SIM only cards.....had a look myself but I just don't spend enough a month on my phone.

Wish my SOA looked that good, especially food, but I live in a house of boys with bottomless pits for stomachs! :rotfl:It's just not going to happen, despite growing my own veg.:o

    Good luck with the quest.
    LM :)

What is it with insurances?? Just had OH car insurance renewal in. £590 for a year fully comprahensive. Thats £160 dearer than last year with no claims of any sort. So he is another year older, another year more driving experience and another years no claims bonus and they whack his premium up. Then in the letter they say that includes a 20% discount for being a loyal customer!! Pah!

Yep, OH had the same, they cranked that up too. Shopping around brought it down to about the same as last year but it's not a good time out there on the quotes front.

  • Hello LP, hello LM...

...yes, my car insurance is gonna be a biggie this year, as I had to claim for a new alarm when my bag was nicked last April.

I'm saving up all my topcashback earnings to offset the renewal cost come May!!

  • Hi Queen Bee

I don't know whereabouts you are - have you considered having a party plan event, and get your stuff for free. I'm esprcially thinking of Vie at Home or Body Shop for make up.

one of my hostesses had over £150 to spend last week - she got enough to last anyone about a year!!
  • Thanks Nikki - that sounds great on the face of things, but I'd hate to ask my friends to my house and then have them feel obliged to buy something. A bit spineless perhaps, but it's a nice idea in principle... :) QB

    Hi Q-B

I've held parties at mine and I always tell my friends that they don't have to buy anything but just to come along for a girlie chat and a glass of wine. So far I've been lucky and someone's always bought something :)
Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck :)

Quiet weekend. Not much to report on the MFW front apart from the fact I've been spending a lot of time in the great outdoors exercising a friend's dog who's gone on holiday. Wherever we've been together, people stop to chat - there seems to be a very friendly doggy fraternity out there, it's nice! :D

What has been considerably less nice are the builders next door. Last week they blocked my boiler flue a 2nd time. I ended up having to climb out onto the roof through a small second floor window at 10pm whilst it was raining. Not my idea of fun. It was also no accident - someone had bundled up the plastic tarp and wedged it between the party wall (on my side) and the flue. Because the flue was hot, parts of the plastic had melted to it and were stuck fast. What a fire hazard.

When I spoke to the Polish foreman the next day, he simply shrugged and said it was my problem, not his. Unbelievable  I ended up calling the Health and Safety Executive, who spoke to their head office to reinforce the safety message. But I don't feel relaxed in my own home with this bunch next door. :(
