  • Throughout this July and August, I have booked to travel to the south of France 8 times. I have booked some flights with BA to Toulouse for £49...when Ryanair flights to Carcassonne worked out in excess of £150..so it's something of a myth to think that no frills are always cheaper

A question. Does Ryanair coun the food you buy airside as an extra bag (so you have to put it in yr suitcase) or can you carry it on?
  • I am going skiing next winter

(1). Does EasyJet's 20 kg limit on 'Hold luggage' include the weight of skis for which there is an additional charge for sports equipment, etc.?

(2). Does EasyJet's 20 kg 'Hold luggage' exclude/include the weight of Cabin luggage?

(3). What is the case for RyanAir ?

Thanks for any info. on this

    1) It's not included, Ski's you pay for seperate
    2) It excludes it, cabin baggage is seperate
    3) Ryanair's allocation is 15kg (I think) same thing for Ski's and cabin baggage. But you do have a weight limit of 10kg for the hand baggage and size limits which are regulary checked.
  • I fly out of both Luton & Stantead using EasyJet & RyanAir to small airports in the south of France.
Flying out is no problem with Cabin luggage - Noboby checks Weight or Size (only one bag allowed)
HOWEVER coming back they catch you with the checks.

A friend has just come back from Puglia (the heel of Italy.)
All NON-Italians were made to perform antics to conform to Weight and Size whereas Italian nationals were waved straight throught without any checks !!!! BE WARNED
  • Seems they are on to Martins dodge just received this letter after selecting electron for payment and it saying card does not match method of payment changed to VISA and it accepted electron card and took £7.

Thank you for your email of the 16th August 2009, concerning your reservation with Flybe.

I can confirm Flybe do accept bank / building society Visa Electron cards as these are debit cards linked to a bank / building society account and the money is then debited directly from your account.

Unfortunately we do not accept Travelex cash passport cards as valid Electron payment. These are cards that are issued by Post Offices, travel agents etc and are prepaid top up cards. As a result of this, when paying by this method a debit card fee will be incurred, which I note was the case.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to write to us allowing us an opportunity of response.

    Yours Sincerely

I have the same problem. Used Martin's advice and went for the cash passport card, but bmibaby's site didnt accept it as valid visa electron card, had to choose Visa option and was charged £30. I sent a letter to them and no reply till now. :-(

This is interesting, because I got a Travelex card from Thomas Cook, and had no problem booking with Ryanair a couple of weeks ago. In the email, it explains the difference, but doesn't say why they refused to accept. Theoretically, if the money is there, what's the difference? Except that they can't get more money out of it, of course. No doubt it is only a matter of time before Ryanair catch on..........

I just booked a return flight with Flybe from Gatwick to Belfast. The outward leg was "free" with £37.24 taxes and charges. But after booking I realised that if I had booked separate single flights the taxes and charges were only £24.99 for that leg. I rang them up and complained so they cancelled my return booking so I could make separate bookings for single flights.

I saved £12.25, although of course I had to pay the extra booking fee for 2 transactions. I'm not sure if it was just a glitch in the system or if 2 one-way flights are often cheaper than a return.
  • I tried to book flights last week with Flybe after obtaining a Visa Electron card (on Martin's advice) and received a similar response - I do not have the right sort of Visa Electron card! although it clearly says Visa Electron on it.

I think it's time this was raised as a major issue - we're being charged to pay for a flight - it's ridiculous.

Come on Martin - your ranting on the TV worked for unfair bank charges let's see if your magic can work again with unfair payment charges.

    The nation needs you.
