Pick them, rinse them in clean water to get rid of any creepycrawlies then use for blackberry and apple pies and crumbles, stew them with sugar and serve with custard or yoghourt, make into blackberry jam or jelly. If you have loads, put into poly bags and freeze till required.

    Hi carolinejane,

Blackberry jam is as easy for a beginner as any other jam. It's delicious! When I gather blackberries, I always make jam, blackberry vodka, blackberry gin for Christmas gifts and freeze some just as they are for throwing into blackberry and apple pies for during the winter.

This current thread has lots of recipes and ideas that should help:

    Blackberries

I'll add your thread to it later to keep the suggestions together.

I have got a load of frozen blackberries (and some other fruit) which I need to use up so I can defrost my freezer.

Can I use them to make jam? or blackberry brandy?

Do I need to defrost them first or use them straight from frozen?

Do I weigh them frozen or defrosted?

Does it matter how long they have been frozen?

    Thank you

I've (helped to) make jam from frozen fruit before. We weighed and used it frozen. The fruit was probably two or three years old, but I shouldn't think the age would matter.

I have a bag of frozen berries that I found at the bottom of my freezer and used them in natural yoghurt and vanilla ice cream to flavour it .They must have been in there a good 9-10 months yet they were fine.
