Blackberries

Is there any better dessert, than Blackberry and Apple crumble, using a bit of oatmeal to make the crumble topping really crunchy?
Then loads of piping hot vanilla custard over the top.
I think we are going to have a great crop down here in the garden of England!:)0 -
I cant believe it! I went out to get some more blackberries today and someone has cut half of the really good blackberry bushes back!
There was some really good fruit on there ripe and some waiting to ripen! very naughty!
I still managed to come home with three tubs full of blackberries though! :j
Also I have found three good apple trees! They are on council land close by to the park and are dropping a lot of apples at the mo. :T So Tomorrow if the weather is nice again I shall make another trip with a bag and collect as many as I think I will use. Or as many as I can carry!
Thanks for all of the ideas so far, I am planning a 'bakeathon' tomorrow afternoon and my freezer is going to be nice and full. :TThermomix Santander Sainsburys Creation Loans Fluid Card Tax Credit OP

I took my mum to the Dr's yesterday & as I waited outside spotted a Blackberry bush so started pickling some which were ripe.
I then took her shopping to Booth's & was amazed to see them for sale in the tiniest punnet (about 12 blackberry's) for £1.99
The Dr's car park was about 6 steps away :rotfl:Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker

We (well pretty much I) picked 4.2 kilos of lovely wild blackberries Sunday lunchtime; at Tesco prices that's over £42! So far We have eaten quite a few, given some away to family and 3.5 kilos are in the freezer for making wine etc. OK, the cost was quite a few scratches, including a couple of nasty ones that got through my trousers, but worth it for good clean, fresh & truly organic fruit.0

Hehehe I LOVE counting how much I've picked and putting it into tesco prices. I picked £15 worth of bilberries one day in July this year - I felt rich!
Blackberries getting nice and ripe round here, I've had a few from the fields by my house but the big picking date is this Thursday when me and a friend are raiding the fields. Woohooo :j0 -
Ugh can I just say though I've picked quite a few with maggots in this year so I haven't been eating them straight, they've been having a good soaking
Nothing worse than about to tuck into a nice juicy blackberry and see a little wriggling maggot emerging :eek:0 -

How about taking a bite of a big juicy blackberry and finding half a maggot! :rotfl:

Got a day off from work on Thursday and I cannot wait to go blackberry picking after all these scrummy recipies posted on here.
Last year I picked a load, soaked them, and actually threw them away after seeing all the beasties floating around  so I'm hoping that this year I can be brave and actually eat them. Are you sure after a good soak in salt ... all the maggots will come out ??
I did treat myself last year to a 'thornless' blackberry bush, its brilliant, there's bunches of blackberries everywhere ..... but still red at the mo (and I'm very impatient, I need a pie now :rotfl:)A creative mess is better than tidy idleness
