I'd never buy new stuff for holidays. I do go away quite often and I like to pack light and pick and mix things I know will go. I'd rather save the money for another holiday!!

I'll take some items that are good quality and that i plan on taking home with me but things like socks, undies and t-shirts i take my old ones (as long as they are still presentable) and as i wear them i just bin them and buy new stuff when i'm home. Give more space for duty free on the way back too!

I have a drawer with holiday tops n'stuff and just open the case and pop it all in. Not stuff I would wear at home so all clean and folded after the last holiday ready to go ;)

  • I have some clothes that I keep mainly for holidays, and I wash them and put them away for next holiday when I get back. I dont buy much new stuff, and what I do I buy in the sales. Like a couple of other posters, anything that is old, or I dont wear often (as long as its decent) I take with me and leave there.
I do the same for OH. Usually buy him cheap T shirts or short sleeved shirts in sale, put them away new for holidays, then he wears them at home when we get back.

As Pee said, would rather spend the money on another holiday!

I do buy new as i think it is part of the excitment of getting ready for hols!

I'm with you there, we tend to buy 'some' new clothes even though you don't really need them, and probably won't wear it as I tend to stick to old favourites. So half the new stuff comes back and sits in the wardrobe.

I have decided from now on to pack really light, as I don't wear a 5th of what I take, I like my trusted comfy clothes.
I also tend to rinse a few bits out every night and once dry they tend to be worn again as they are in sight and I don't have to rummage through the wardrobe and draws. So next holiday it's minimal packing for me.

Don't do a Coleen Rooney and get stopped bringing too much back , mind the allowance has doubled since then. :T:j

Double Duty-Free Allowance for Travellers Returning to the UK

December 7, 2008: Travellers can now bring back more than double the amount of gifts and souvenirs from outside the EU without paying UK duty. From 1st December, the tax and duty-free allowance increased from £145 to £300, with a further increase to £340 in January to take account of recent changes in the sterling/euro exchange rate.

I've bought nearly all mine in charity shops, average around £1.50 per item but many 50p! We haven't had a proper holiday for about 20 years so I didn't have much to fall back on.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • I go on ebay, buy them, then resell them!
