Six years ago I remember telly shows such as "How to be an eMillionaire".

A few hundred years ago Kirsty and Phil would have been flogging us tulips.

I hope the show is all about yields and why current prices (ramped uo by, guess who, Kirsty n Phil) now make it impossible to make money from this latest craze.

    I wonder....

    impossible to make money

    Rubbish. ...
    .
  • The house I let is a nice little earner. I paid cash originally but soon realised that I needed to mortgage it to offset tax. The mortgage lending went mostly into my flexible mortgage savings account so balancing the BTL mortgage repayments.

After recent changes in house values, I could make as much by investing the house value - but then, I wouldn't own the house (which was bought primarily for reasons other than making a few quid). The rent will go up steadily each year and, I believe, will help me in my target to retire at 50 (7 years to go).

I saw the advert, and it is totally wrong. The stock market has ALWAYS outperformed property over the long term (decade or more)- even when you take into account the last few years.

This program will probably be very irresponsible, telling everyone to get a BTL when it probably won't even cover the interest on a mortgage.

Channel4 should be more responsible to its viewers. I thought the last program, best and worst places was a joke - prices rise by 80% in 5 years Kirsty? Would you like a bet on that?

Property is going to rise in an exponential manner until, one day, even a 1 bed ex council flat will be worth more than the entire GDP of the USA. By that time everyone who owns a house will be so rich that they will never have to work again.

    Yep! :rotfl:

Just like the Emperors Palace in Japan was worth more than the entire GDP of California in 1980! Then prices fell 75%... only just recovering now...

But i'm sure you are joking... lol.

    Exactly.

I personally wish I had an already overpriced flat to flog in one of thier "hotspots" on the back of this programme. I remember one of K&P's recently where they were practically railroading a couple into buying a house to let to students in hull, when It was clear to me that the returns on it were not worth it (marginal per month as I recall) and more hassle to the potential buyers than they would ever get back, they looked exhausted from just thinking about it.

Reminds me of a place in the sun, if Amanda lamb is in town sell your place in Latvia now, its already hit its peak.

Not saying theres much wrong with it in principle, I certainly wouldnt get a BTL in wherever they are suggesting.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Let the lemmings pile into BTL, that is the purpose of having lastminute lemmings :).... that tip the scales firmly in the other direction ;)
  • Buy land - they're not making any more. You'll probably have to buy the house sitting on it at the same time.
