Aol Users out there?

Seeing a people have posted on here, some must have Aol broadband.

I have a few issues with my Aol Account at the moment. Dont get me wrong, Ive had aol maybe 5years, absolutely no trouble with them, maybe one or two days where Ive not been able to get online. No questions ever asked about my Download useage. which is more than the other providers limits.

Since Aol changed their Packages a while ago Ive noticed a couple of things, one is probably my own fault and should have raised it earlier.

I am on the Gold Package, paying £25 a month where I can get up to 2mb. However my Line doesnt get 2mb and so only get 1mb.

Although the Silver Package is on average about £17 a month, where you get 1mb. How come Aol havent notified me or even downgraded my package as id basically get the same but at a cheaper price.

Hopefully this point I can use as a bargaining tool.

I am moving home & was going to get a brand new provider, however after so many reports re: download useage limits etc, I know I can truely trust Aol on the matter, well up to now anyway.

I was going to ring them stating the fact I am moving and considering keeping Aol, however state my unhappiness about the fact for a year Ive paid for Gold Package where Silver Price is the spec I get. Costing me around about £100 extra a year.

Do you think that if I say I would be willing to stay with them if they either : -
1. Charge me Silver Price for Gold & throw in a Wireless Modem
or
2. Charge me Gold Price like now, for the Platinum 8mb package. saving me £60 on platinum & really doubling my speed.

Have checked & my new home would get 2.5mb on the 8mb package. So either way I reduce my Package & Price or keep the same Price for a higher package.

Do you think they would do me some deal like this. whats Aol Users experiences and thoughts ?
Are there prices flexible to allow them to do this for me? I emailed them my thoughts & they told me to ring regarding. Think i would prefer to have got my house & had my phoneline activated before I try & push them.
Also would i need to pay something 2 get the phone line activated for broadband? i will b gettin talk talk line rental ( icant get talk talk broadband yet)

I also had problem while moving home. They treated me as a new customer and put me on 1 year contract although I was with them for 2 years and was on Gold package. At my new home there was no internet connexion for about 7 days and when I asked them they said that it will take another week to set up . They however provided the land line dialup connexion but some how there was a fault . On their new help line number ( which is charged) I spent around £6 but withoput any remedy.I then threatened to leave aol. The result was that they gave me silver package at reduced rate and refunded my tel charges.
I don't find much difference in the download speed and must say it was a saving.I would suggest you sort out with them before you move in.

I am however now thinking to move to talktalk as I think it is much cheaper with free broadband.
    Cheers

I've been with AOL now for what seems an age. I am currently on the Gold package paying £19.99 which I have for nearly 3 years now. I have moved house numerous times (we are a military family) and everytime they have started to charge me £24.99 at my new address. Each time this has happened I have complained and always been refunded and put back to paying £19.99. I won't go into the problems I had with getting reconnecting, but they all got sorted in the end...

I would say it's worth the phone call as they are generally good for retention deals.

AOL is good for alot of reasons but they do have draw backs. Mainly their customer service is to hot. There is a word out there for AOL. It's AO hell when it comes to service.

I signed up for aol silver at launch after being with them on dial up for yonks. Towards the end of last year I noticed they had upgraded me to gold speed at no extra cost & without notifying me.

I doubt I'm the only customer this has happened to, so may be worth bearing in mind when making a decision about whether to downgrade.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Your line might have been upgraded to 2Mbit, but they run a soft cap so your downloads reach a maxium speed of 120k/s or so, ie 1Mbps. Go to adslguide.org and run a speed test, it will tell you your true download and upload speed, not just your connection speed.

Definitely worth asking for what you want.

We're paying for Silver and getting Gold due to a few of their mistakes when switching from dial up. We told them we were going elsewhere if they didn't sort it to our satisfaction...but wanted to stay with them as had been happy with the dial up service for the previous 6 years.

Don;t forget silence is an excellent tool when asking for these sorts of things...makes CS speak to you and offer you stuff rather than you potentially getting less than they were willing to offer.

If you phone them to cancel your account, they will ask WHY & offer you the earth to stay. I like AOL after trying out many ISP's I've stuck with them for around 5 years, with an occasional polite threat to leave, which works wonder's.

I just called Aol to get my MAC, and they tried very hard to make me stay. Since my issue is that I hate the software, they can't tempt me, but they will definitely be open to your suggestions. Try saying "I can get X speed for £Y price from Z ISP, but since I've been with Aol so long, I'd like to give you a chance to keep my business."

I have just left AOL after 5 years - they make you jump through hoops to leave.

I had to speak to 3 different people (0870 costs) all with the same cheat sheet and the same offer to stay. It was better than the one I was on but AOL had become AOhelL for me so was desperate to leave.

I would urge anyone who has been with them a year to ring up and start voicing you intention to leave. I got a better deal each time and every year. Although to be honest i would just urge you to leave!

Customer service is the pits. Fair enough when it was free but they changed all that (even though most had signed up for a contract with a free phone number).
