At a VERY prestigious hose show this weekend, a so called "professional" was seen whipping and beating a young horse!! this was witnessed by about 20 people and when one onlooker stepped in to stop it he was told toF*** off and mind his own business!!! this is DISGUSTING!!
I hope it OK to put this on here, but as I'm sure a lot of you are animal lovers, there is a petition to try to stop this sort of thing from ever happening again, PLEASE add your names!
Thank you

It IS illigal - I hope that someone reported the incident to the RSPCA and police who would have been on site? There is usually ALWAYS RSPCA and police presence at large horse hows and fairs etc.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Yes it is illegal! sadly from what I have heard, the "powers that be" for this particular event are trying a bit of a cover up!! the perpetrator has admitted too striking this poor horse ONCE! that is more than enough!
I cannot stand abuse of ANY animal!0 -
I'll sign, i'm a horse person & would've probably gone & hit the abuser if i'd seen it, I couldn't stand for that!0

Thank you! the more people that sign the better!!0

The petition said an AHS judge stood by and did nothing, was a complaint made to a steward/organiser? I'd be interested to know what the response was if so. I don't really feel comfortable signing the petition with an incomplete and anonymous story.
I have to say, despite adoring Arabs as a breed the presentation of them in hand is not uncommonly ''not to my taste'' as they are often ''excited'' in a way I would not consider doing with any of my animals (and yes, I used to compete, and show). DH wants to consider an arab/high percentage arabin the near future and we've been watching classes to get an idea of the breeding that looks what he wants and while a lot of pre ring preparation falls short of abuse (I would unhesitatingly report such) a lot is IMO pretty poor horsemanship. Which is a great shame.
Is there a more complete story on this to help those of us who might want to sign if more if we know more? e.g. who at Malvern/show organiser is trying to cover up and how? This suggests it was reported, is that right?0 -
I have to say I haven't signed either... because the story is simply too unspecific about who was involved and what exactly happened...
were police and rspca called? what was their response? etcDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Arab in hand showing is something that has concerned me for about 10 years now - both what is being bred and how the animals are shown in the ring. While not a huge fan of the breed (I've never wanted a horse that was cleverer than me
) IMHO the breed has gone downhill mainly because the fashion in the showring is for horses without bone and with very very dished faces...many whom I cannot see performing under saddle. I've been at various "big" shows, the International at Towerlands and Malvern and I do not like the way the youngsters (in particular) are handled, pulled and pushed all over the place in the ring, whipped round corners to "liven" them up, apparently it helps if they fall over
.
I got some filthy looks at Towerlands once for saying "And they say Welsh Cob showing is common and only for p!keys.....at least their horses don't go into the ring unless sound, they stay upright and you don't have people chasing their horses round outside the ring rattling a tin with stones or rustling a carrier bag"
Lostinrates....if your OH wants an Arab, tell him to look for a Crabbet bred horse, old english lines, sane performance horses, sturdy and as they are unfashionable very good value
Mrs Tine, the RSPCA are very rarely at horse shows - unless they've got a fund raising stall there.
However I haven't signed the petition, sorry but not enough info.0 -
Hmmm I've usually seen them at the big shows when I've been there as St Johns
The "services" tend to meet up for cuppa's to compare notes
Especially if there is something of concern... Ditto police.
As for the showing of horses etc... I've never got the hang of it really... I spent quite a while one summer as a judges assistant but whilst I learnt how to judge horses I didn't like it and never went back to it. People say horse racing is cruel but my uncles horses were never treated like that! They're loved and looked after because if you don't then they don't run well and you don't make any money from them... I don't like the show world much to be honest

OK, I understand what you are all saying, for legal reason I cannot put names on here. The AHS have received written complaints following verbal complaints at the time, and sadly it seems they are trying to "brush it under the carpet" which is apalling. The following is what was ariginally posted on another forum, with names removed, I understand that were around 20 witnesses to this. There are many, many people in the Arab horse world who are trying to put an end to this sort of behaviour and the current in hand showing "practices", who refuse to show thier horses because of it as they do not want to be "tarnished with the same brush" it is these people who are trying to get it stopped.
"This is what I and many others witnessed.
A professional he calls himself! Was seen whipping and I mean beating! One of ******** in-hand horses! As she and others including a Professional ridden producer and 'new ridden panel judge' stood enjoying and watched! When someone had the guts to go and tell them to stop they were told to very rudely to bleep off! How is ********* on the AHS panel!! All of these people should be banned from next years show!
Many, many people gathered to watch this whipping happen, many witnesses, so what will be done? *********** is a disgrace and should go back to the Middle East where he clearly has got far too BIG for his boots!
What is wrong with these people they all think they are above everything! They are a disgrace!"
