Horse abuse!!! So angry!!

Ah, do you mean the County shows rather than the breed shows? Yes, they and the police are usually at those and I suppose they could be behind the scenes at other shows and I just haven't noticed them

Many years ago - nearly 20! I used to show Welsh Cob stallions at the big breed shows and I'm still showing at a lot smaller shows now and TBH I see a lot of the things that I didn't like at the bigger shows (where there is a lot at stake for the breeder/owner) has filtered down to what should just be fun shows....and the horses is always the one that suffers. It's got to the stage where I now complain loudly to the show secretary whenever I see people behaving stupidly. I'm also very old fashioned about what should be shown in each class, that geldings shouldn't be shown in hand once they are 4 years old, untrimmed means just that etc etc, really I'm just a boring old fossil;)0 -

If I was to check out Arabian Lines would the full story be there?0 -
Orlao, if you were to check out Arabian Lines, you would find a few mentions of it, but the main thread was removed:mad::mad: presumably at the request of the "powers that be" and fear of legal action!! the same applies to straightegyptians.com forum, although another thread was started I don't know if it is still there. As far as I'm aware there is only one Arab site that has not removed threads about this.
You are NOT a boring old fossil! and good for you for complaining so loudly, if only everyone would do the same, it would end so much suffering for so many horses, not just Arabs, but ALL breeds.0 -
Lostinrates....if your OH wants an Arab, tell him to look for a Crabbet bred horse, old english lines, sane performance horses, sturdy and as they are unfashionable very good value

Mrs Tine, the RSPCA are very rarely at horse shows - unless they've got a fund raising stall there.
However I haven't signed the petition, sorry but not enough info.
I used to ride a lovely Crabbet, but, IMHO, I haven't seen such lovely ones since starting to keep an eye open recently. But yes: exactly as you say, the extreme breeding is terrible, a further issue is many, many of these seahorse faced, spindly limbed creatures have no where to put a saddle
We're looking at the top height range of a ''crabbet type'' arab, really, but yes, something with substance behind beauty. I've seen some nicer horses bred outside UK, very sadly.
MrsTine: good showing should not be detramental to the horse. If you look to the origins of showing and understand it was once a platform for other things (studs, dealers, young horses at the beginning of other ''careers'' and likewise young riders). but yes, there is much bad practise, and thats why it holds little interest for me now, in general, though I still see some beautiful horses ridden well. Its a great shame, a incorporated into the industry as it would have been once its a good way to improve breeding, use as a shop window as I am, and has many other benefits to ''competition'' horses at the beginning of a career. Overweight horses wobbling round a ring covered in glitter, however, and poor practise such as all of us will have seen and/or heard about do nothing for anyone.
OP, I'm not able to sign the petition under these circumstances. I hope this is on Arabian Lines and H and H etc etc. The best thing would be to get a significant outcry from AHS members, so that the AHS ha to listen.0 -

Hi lostinrates, there IS a signiicant outcry from AHS members!
Sadly, you won't find a link to this petition on Arabian Lines! it seems it against thier "policy" to allow this, as it was started by a non member
, it WAS posted on there and removed, along with a huge thread where members were voicing thier disgust at what had happened.
May I ask you to please take a look at the messages posted along with signatures on the petition, in particular 63 & 64?
I will say that a lot of people are worried about signing for fear of retribution!0 -

Thats a shame. I do recall hearing Arabian lines was a good but possibly overmoderated site. I keep meaning to join, as would obviously be a good place for Dh's arab quest... What about the AHS themselves, has an appraoch been made? And H and H?0 -
the AHS has been approached, but not many are happy with the responses received so far!0

Was the OP actually there and see this alleged abuse or did you find this elsewhere? Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama

Sadly I was not there, but then again maybe it was a good thing as I would now probaly be locked away and chrge with GBH or similar. However, I have 1st hand accounts from those that witnessed the "alleged" abuse, and have read, on another forum, the perpetrators "explanation" of events, in which he ADMITS to strking this poor colt!
I would say that this petition is not simply aimed at this one incident, but the MANY others that are happening all the time, and which the vast majority of owners/breeders find totally abhorent.0
