whether people loose their jobs or not!!! another post states.... its worth a free lunch..... well i hope that person enjoys their free lunch and sleeps ok when someone gets sacked.... personally i would rather pay for my lunch than have that on my conscience...
It's down to the company to decide what standards they require their staff to meet. We might not always agree with them, but all we can do is report as we find. It's not that we go in looking for things to complain about / snitch on, we have to answer specific questions, including the type of smile in some cases.

So what you're saying is, if we do a mystery shop, and the service is appalling, we should lie and say it was excellent so that the person keeps their job?

I spent 13 years as a hotel manager and had to let many people go because their standards of work and professionalism were below our standards. I wouldn't want people working in my hotel, representing my company, if they were crap at their job!

When I do a mystery shop, I am truthful and honest. Having said which, if someone or something is really bad I do always try and find something good to say about them, even if it's just that they were wearing the correct uniform or a clearly visible name badge, but I'd never lie to spare my conscience.

To be fair, it's not the mystery shoppers fault if the employee isn't doing the job to the standard they were paid to do

I wouldn't want telling lies to a MS company on my conscience and putting my own job at risk by such actions. Store managers can dispute our reports if they believe we've reported things incorrectly, and occasionally stores are double shopped, so any discrepencies between yours and the other shoppers report will be highlighted.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Sorry for changing the subject.....

I notice that a few MS companies have the option to add a photo of yourself, is there much advantage in doing so? Does it improve the amount of jobs you get offered?

I've had to upload photo's to get an ID card made for me. When you sign into stores to do merchandising/auditing work, you sometimes have to show ID, especially if you need access to the stockroom.

please refer to my previous threads which ask that if you get bad service report it, i do... but if its one tiny mistake and the rest was ok, surely its ok to overlook this one tiny thing in the midst of an otherwise good experience.

like i say please read my other threads it will explain what i mean.
Its our job to answer the questions that we are asked as honestly and accurately as we can. It is up to our clients, and your employers, to choose whether or not to overlook "one tiny mistake". I get no pleasure in writing bad reports, and love writing good reports when I receive good service. Companies pay for mystery shopping to find out what their customers experience is, what they choose to do with that information is not up to us.

If your employers are as harsh as you are saying perhaps you ought to contact your union, or something.

If it's one tiny mistake then your employer should overlook it when they look at the report! If they fire people over one tiny mistake then they obviously aren't worth working for.

A good employer should use our reports as an opportunity to reward good service and re-train those who are falling below their standards. We as mystery shoppers are not responsible in any way for what the employers choose to do.

I can see Lakeside and Bluewater - they've been loading them up in batches because I was waiting ages for the one I wanted!
