I'm so sorry this happened to your Simba, thats so sad, poor thing, its the last time you seen him, the memory cant be nice for you.
We had our weimy pts 4 weeks ago, and it was traumatic enough, but the vet made it as comfortable and bearable as possible for us, left us alone with him for as long as we wanted, gave a sedative even though it probably wasnt even needed. We had to chase up the bill a few weeks later, as our vets are never in a hurry for us to settle up with them, pts was about £42 and cremation about £92, so not as bad as we expected.
Our weimy was so well loved at the vets surgery and I think one of the reasons they didnt want us back in a hurry is that when we went to settle the bill, receptionist was in tears, when we collected the ashes, different receptionist, crying, and I'm dreading meeting up with the other vet in the practice next time my other dog needs a check-up, as I just know there will be tears from her too, she loved him, I just wish everyone else had vets as lovely as ours are.

my vet sounds like yours. he came to my house free of charge to put my Stormie to sleep, he cried whilst he did it. then when the nurse came to pick up the body a few hours later she was in tears too. they had all got to know and love Stormie over the two years she had the cancer treatment. then on the morning of the cremation i received the most beautiful bunch of flowers from one of the most expensive florists in the area, from everyone at the vets practice! they are an expensive practice but they are pretty amazing people who know how to deal with the pet-owner as well as the pet itself. like you, i wish everyone could have vets like this x

£195 sounds as if they are getting the ashes back, possibly in a casket as even OOH or a visit shouldn't come to that. I have just done a visit to put a cat to sleep and we will arrange to get her ashes back for £112. If there are no ashes to be returned, yes a rip off but crematorium costs can escalate if you want anything fancy / unusual.

I had to pay £35 to have my OH hamster put to sleep and we took it away.
